Title: J Class Hull & Rigging

I have just bought a really pretty plank on frame J Class hull from Ebay, its in really good condition, the hull is 760mm long and 140mm at its widest point, the deck to the bottom of the keel is 135mm deep. There isn't any ballast inside the hull, but 2 threaded holes on the outside of the hull at the bottom of the keel. I need to make a rudder and hatches for the deck. I have some mast sections and some sails for patterns. Can anybody help me with mast information and general drawings, so I can complete the model and fit Radio Control.

Any help would be gratefully received.

Welcome to the forum :-))

If you could post a couple of pictures
members will be more able to help you
sort it out.
It's quite small for a J so length of mast and
sail sizes would help determining amount of ballast.
The ballast will have to go on the bottom of the keel.
Inside ballast will not let it sail.

There was a wide variety/evolution of sail plans for the J's. They were a racing class and changed a lot. The later plans were more highly tuned and twitchy in real life. The models will be the same, but more so.
From the early gaff rigged onwards. The pictures below are of HMY Britannia.

Hello biggles. You might get some ideas from looking on my web site for the Nottingham and Canterbury J Class, www.jclasshulls.co.uk. On this site are the build instructions and also the Canterbury rules which give the dimensions of the sails for the 4 foot J and you could scale from there.
