Hi guys, I spotted one of our lake inhabitants basking in the sun,
can you tell what it is?

Looks like a red eared terrapin.

confirm that......rife in inland waters and canals.......probably more common here now that their native Southern states of the US.
 
they grow relatively quickly and outgrow persons tanks and so they get flushed down the loo or dumped in local waterways........and they are filthy beasts to keep to..tanks need cleaning daily whether filters are used or not. >>:-( >>:-( >>:-( >>:-(

The terrapin on the photo would overhang a 10" dinner plate
and there are bigger ones, some have been removed
as where they are is a conservation area and they were eating
the eggs and young of some of the rare bird types.

beautiful Australian Black swans..............they are so so lovely :-)) :-)) :-)) :-))

Yes Neil I have to agree with you, and these two are so tame
they will take food out of peoples hands,they have been on the lake
for about 1 week, how long they will stay is another thing the mute
swans on the lake are as you can imagine quite aggressive towards them.

We had one arrive earlier in the year but it was so aggressive towards the mute swans
the Council had to get the RSPCA to remove it after it attacked everything in sight
when people were feeding the ducks.
Pity I loved them on the Swan River and imbibed of a few tinnies of Swan Lager.

PS...the marketing of Beer in OZ is  %%....we can sometimes buy Swan Larger from Perth WA ....... cheaper in Sydney NSW than beer produced in our home capital of Sydney

Who subsidized the 3,935km freight costs?............yes me......each time I purchase other goods from the grog shop...... >>:-( ....Derek

I wounder what happened to the big terrapin at "Bletchley park"his house was like a small shed.shame he disappeared like the model boat club.Nice venue at Bletchley pk.

Interesting to see black swans in the UK. Below is a photo I took near Tenterfield, on the northern tablelands of NSW.

They are a permanent presence in Dawlish, Devon

There is a pair resident on the Union Canal near Edinburgh.

We even get them here on occasion
