Myself and a few of the AMS members are thinking/hoping about coming along to this event, if that's Ok with you guys?

Just a few questions :

Is the water suitable for submarines?

What's the parking like? Owing to health issues with some of us, we'd really like to be able to park as close to the water as is possible.

Is there wheelchair access available?

And the camping facilities...are we ok with a large American style motorhome, plus maybe a couple of caravans as well, depending on who comes?

Rich

(oh, the Chairman has just asked...will there be First Aid and Paramedics available, a fully equipped operating theatre, an oxygen supply close at hand, and an Emergency Helicopter on standby? If you knew the state of some us, you'd understand....)   %)
Title: Re: MAYHEM 2014 - May 24th & 25th
Post by: Klunk on November 12, 2013, 02:18:33 pm
Parking is 50ft from lakeside. Why you want wheelchair access to the lake is beyond me, but feel free to throw yourself in! The whole:-#whole area is wheelchair friendly. Camping is suitable fir motorhomes and caravans but there is electrical hookups water is 3ft deep all round. We had Alistair culls massive typhoon here a couple of years back and we can dedicate some slots just for submarines if you don't like a target rich environment

Post by: U-33 on November 12, 2013, 04:03:27 pm
Thanks for that, chap...sounds good so far! The idea of dedicated sub slots is a good idea, nobody wants to lose periscopes or other appendages.

I'll let you know what the lads say about this soon as I can.

Rich

(wheelchair access is for me...50feet maybe only a short walk, but's a long crawl with a sub under one arm!)

If you have trouble transporting your models let us know, there are trolleys available at the lake to transport models, and there is always willing helpers to assist with the  transporting of models.
I am sure we can have a clear lake while your subs are in the water

Just incase you fine fellows have not got it (you missed it out Klunk  <*< )
The dates are....now pay attention

May 24th  & 25th   2014

There will of course be a fair few of us there from the Thursday, and setting up on the Friday, and of course a fair bit of sailing going on at the same time, all welcome of course

PS another small typo for all you fellow campers, there is at present NO electrical hook up on the camp site, but a few of us do have generators, which will also be pondside for battery charging etc.   :-))

The park organise their own camping so that's already set as is the entrance fee to. The Park. Mayhem cannot charge for entry to the lake due to park rules.

Just for clarity, then, using today's prices it's £6 parking per day or £20 per night if camping?

1 plank of WOOD 5feet x 6insx1/2 ich thck BUILD A BOAT from that

1 electric motor 380 size

How about having a Blind Steering Competition.
Person with the Tranny is blindfolded, he has an assistant who guides him through the Course.
Should be good for a few laughs - - and other things !!!!.

A variation would be eyes open but all servo switches reversed (maybe not easy with computer transmitters)

Like both ideas.

You'll find that if you reverse both you can learn to adapt pretty quickly.  Reverse the steering and leave the throttle as normal, then run a tug competition :D

With the current refurb of the park at the moment the big boating lake behind the model boat lake looks more like a scene from WW1, we could ask them to leave it for the tank boys! :}

These were taken a few months back, the main work is being concentrated on the big lake, creating new islands, reed bunts and wooden walkways. The current work makes the pictures above from another world, all the silt has been pushed, dug out, and relocated, all the excess is being removed. There are nice rumours that they have a Mississippi style paddle steamer in storage waiting to use the lake later this year. A new outside amphitheatre is being built near our model boat lake, all the old run-down buildings (the hexagonal shaped ones) are being rebuilt, new roads and paths are being routed through out the park, as well as existing ones being relaid. There are other mini projects too but this has been in the planning for 10 years , just been waiting for all the money come together. Should look absolutely fantastic when they are finished. :-))  I'll get some current pictures of the work for the weekend.

I will be going to the lake this weekend so expect some pictures of the parks refurb on Sunday!

Hello everyone!

I'm putting out this request on behalf of a fellow Victorian era modellers.

We would like to invite anyone who has a Victorian or early 20th century warship to come and sail at the Mayhem weekend to create a turn of the century fleet review parade, the more the better!
So if you've got pre dreadnoughts, armoured rams, turret ships, armoured cruisers, monitors, protected cruisers, torpedo boats, torpedo boat destroyers, gunboats, gun sloops... You get the idea!
Any nation any type of ship, as long as it's from the Victorian or early 20th century eras. Tell us what you've got and we will plan it in, it doesn't matter if we have repeat ships or names, let's create the biggest fleet review of early warships in model form! :-))
Good luck! The Black hulled fleet will return!

To let everyone know who's interested

We have eight warships already, one Russian protected cruiser, several Japanese cruisers, a German light cruiser, a British pre dreadnought and several other smaller vessels.
So keep them coming! :-))

Funny There was i thinking my boats was to fast for Wicky park.
Still with a fair wind and a bit of speed Stavros can get his boat to jump out of the boating lake into the main lake now without touching the ground once. :-))

However its only fair if he post's a picture of his new boat so we can get a chance to build one to challenge it. (Note. Phil is not saying much on this subject ) is he worried because it down to him the catch it and the end of the run. {-)

Hi fellow loons …… I know it's a bit off topic but I'm thinking of sailing my Alien creation in the dark on Saturday evening. With its mass of LED lighting effects it could look rather spooky. Once the wee lads from over the border have consumed a few drams they will believe they've had an encounter.

Maybe Martin can play the X-Files theme tune over the PA to complete the effect. (I've got it on CD if your up to it Sir).

Steve.

Did you not see the tug cam we brought from Scotland a year or so ago??
One of our members used a tug hull with a basic square superstructure with a holder for a video camera
On it. If you search for E Haig on YouTube you will see his videos he has done with it.

If the size of the camera isn't a major issue, I would would just use one of the waterproof tough cameras e.g. Panasonic FT range and their ilk. The picture quality is better on these than any of the actioncams.

I use the little 808 cameras, becuase they're tiny and light, so they're ideal for use in a watertight housing for underwater or clipped onto a model aeroplane for aerial shots. I sacrifice a little in quality in exchange for the bijou qualities.

There was a link on here where a friendly Frenchman(?) posted up a particularly good video... can't find in now!  >:-o

Hi Graham

We are sorting that out as we speak- hopefully we will have an answer next weekend and how to refund those who have already booked their pitch. :-))

We have asked the parks management to cordon off the lower left hand pitch site nearest to the model boat lake but still in the main site with the toilets\shower block. For those who have been before its the bit just as you enter the main campsite and then head towards the corner nearest to the lake.

Is this ok for everyone?

We can change it if required. And our best man is on it ensuring that it is cordoned off in the correct place.

Hi everyone

For a start please feel free to do one of the following to me at Mayhem at Wicksteed weekend:

1- Push me into the lake
2- Punch me!
3- Kick me!
4- Make me wear one of Martin's shirts!
5- Call me a deaf young idiot!!! :embarrassed: :embarrassed: :embarrassed:

I spoke to Nigel this morning about the camping, etc and he gave me a quizzical look and said you weren't listening last weekend were you?
I thought I had but I'm guessing that my excitement of playing with my new boat made me deaf to certain words!
Primarily which Thursday Nigel is talking to the Events Manager, not the Thursday just gone but this Thursday coming! I didn't hear him say that the Events Manager was on holiday this week just gone and will be back this week with all the paperwork ready to be discussed with Nigel this week.
I can only apologise to everyone that I got the days wrong and I'll have info on campsite and entrance fee next Sunday afternoon by the latest.
Please don't make me do the zip wire the park has just erected!!! %)

Do not forget that this year BBQ has a wool theme, as this is our 7th year of fun. Blimey it seems only last year I stood under a marquee, with Stav, Ken, Mark, Bob and a few others and watched Martin tidy away things in the pouring rain.
Time fly when you are having fun, bring some old pictures with you and we can reminisce on how we get virtually the same weather year after year :-)) :-)) :-)) :-)) :-)) :-)) :-))

Hi lads

Joking aside I just need to back up the seriousness of Martin's last post, do not be tempted to use 'fireworks' after the display put on by Ian, the security staff at Wicksteed Park will ask you to leave if you do. Wicksteed Park can't use fireworks themselves other than the Bonfire Night display, so we are in deed grateful to the park for allowing the use of pyrotechnics in Ian's display.

Right serious stuff aside... I haven't heard from the park yet via Nigel but I'll speak to him no later than Sunday morning for the details.

is there any one attending the show that could  help me out here ....

for me to do a professional "battle display" using pyrotecnics ... ( yes i have had permission to do it at the lake )

if you have anything that resembles a boat . of any kind that i can set on fire please bring it with you .... preferably made out of foam/ polystyrene so i can blow up instead of just setting it on fire  that would be great . i am only planning to do this on the Saturday of the weekend . so i can have a few beers sat night and spend all day sunday suffering and sleeping in my tent lol ...

please PM me if you can help me out by bringing a boat or something even if you got a few bits of foam laying around that you could throw together in 5 mins to resemble a boat at a distance .
any help would be greatly received  BIGGER THE BETTER

Ian-mccaffrey has sent me a couple of rules he ask that people follow during the set up of his display and during it

Revised rules, that's what comes from typing faster than the brain is working

This is a fun event for everyone to come and enjoy themselves, so please do read the following rules carefully
All clubs, club members and traders must adhere to these rules for the safety and comfort of everyone at the event, failure to do so may result in that club, club member or trader being asked to leave the event.

1.   No entering the water at all.
2.   Only committee designated people are allowed in the water at any time. If you require assistance with your model please ask one of these people, do not enter the water yourself.
3.   The only people allowed in the water are:- SteamboatPhil, Mrs SteamboatPhil (Steph), Klunk (Pete), Stav (Dave) and a couple members of the Wicksteed Club.
4.   You cannot drive across the railway to park your car. All cars must be parked in the designated car park, this is very close to the lake.
5.   No running of fast IC boats
6.   If a slow IC boat is going to be run it must be first checked by D203 Bill
7.   No running of fast electric boats, without first getting permission from a member of the organising committee
8.   No running of RTR models without first getting permission from a member of the organising committee
9.   No running around the edge of the lake
10.   Before powering up any 27 MHz or 40 MHz models you must first check the frequency board to ensure your slot is clear, if your slot is not clear please change crystals or wait for your slot to become clear.
11.   Rule 10 does not apply to 2.4ghz controlled models unless 27 MHz or 40 MHz is used for other controls on the model
12.   After running any 27 MHz or 40 MHz model, please remember to remove your peg from the frequency board, so others can use that frequency
13.   Only traders situated in the traders area are allowed to trade at the event
14.   If asked to clear the water of models, please do so as quickly as possible
15.   There will be restrictions in the use of the 40mhz frequency during one of the displays over the weekend

Thank you for thinking of my boat. Yes I can as slow IC boats can be run, however they have to be check over by me and fit to be run at a public display such as Mayham is.

However It takes up lots of room in my car so IF you would like to see Mable Alice at Mayham let me know. (VOTE NOW)  I have a tamar and a canal boat i need to fit in my car + camping kit and gennys to bring with me.

Just read your last post referring to the RN Victorian fleet sail, your Caesar and Scout will make a most welcome addition to the ever increasing number of warships that will be on display. :-))

My battleship is coming along, hopefully she will have a Victorian colour scheme in time, primer has just gone on today!

Well lads itsd been awhile. what with a few large projects going on (sadly none involving boats) and of course marrying the competion, time has sped by, not enough model boating has been going on.....still that is about to change.
So I hope you are all well out there in Mayhem land and are looking forward to a fun (and dare I say a sunny) weekend. I will once again be setting fire to a boat and sending it up the lake for our Stav to catch, well it gives us all a bit of a laugh....also going to bring one of them wireless controlled boats.....so beware.
As stav has said I will be bringing the most important thing for all us boaters..... the tea urn......but sadly not the wife.....don't tell her but I will be bringing her boat......well that way I might have a chance  {-) {-)

No problems, Bill has already spoken to me about where Stevenage club would like to go and so far I can't see any problems yet. We are trying to use the whole of the lake side this year so we are not all piled in by the entrance.

Whoever is paying for the good weather ensure you keep doing whatever you are doing! ;)

Are there tables?

Hi Bill

Yes, we have requested 25-30 tables from the park, they will be the folding 4-5ft variety with some smaller ones mixed in. Basically the ones we have used in the past.

However, if you can bring a table to allow others to use another table we would be most grateful to anyone doing so.

The Scottish lads have requested six, and they have been reserved for them but once again if you've got room in your car/van the more tables the better! :-))

are there any trade stands there please and which ones

Confirmed at the moment are Deans Marine and Models By Design but others have pitched up in the past including Component Shop, Speedline Models, Scale Flags, and Model Sounds.

There are about 8 clubs coming too (that I'm aware of anyway!)
WPMBC
Stevenage
Luton & District
Peterborough (P&AMBC)
Mid-Wales
North Wales (Stavros' club- can't write long Welsh names  :embarrassed: ) sorry Stav!
Black Park (Steamboatphil)
The Scottish contingent aka Gingyer and his pals (possibly little Haggis!)

Come along and bring a boat, you'll be more than welcome, just follow the Mayhem signs in the park to get to the lake parking.

Nick,

The Peterborough Club will bring a couple of tables that will fit inside our gazebo. Therefore we will not require any of the tables that you have available for loan.

With very best regards

I'll be bringing my gazebo and table. I'll be sailing my trawler 'Smokey Joe' and of course AFOR ( A for Alien) will be looking forward to making a first landing in Wicksteed. Can someone please hold Martins hand as he's frightened by the noise AFOR makes. As for Catherine ….. when she met AFOR at Coalville, she just smiled and said ga ga goo goo, to which AFOR replied …. xzyqztzz ….. it must mean something!  %%

Hi everyone

First the apologies to Ian and Carl for getting their club name wrong I thought you were Mid Wales Club, and to the great gummy one Phil, I can only say the mind was thinking Black Heath the fingers however were not! :embarrassed:

To answer Delboys question, yes once again there will be a bring and buy stall, speak to either Bob Baker or Rob Mitchell at the lake and they'll help you sell your boats and other bits and pieces.

Looking forward to seeing everyone, I've got the HMS Prince George, HMS Gnat, HMS X1, and CMB ready to go and the penguin springer is back! :-))

Hello,

On the subject of Names, please can the members who are going to Wicksteed wear a Name Badge !!!.

On other years I have been, I have  been in the Company of members who I would have loved to had a chat with,
but, I dont know what they look like in person.

Any old badge will do, just to announce to fellow Mayhemers who you are !!.

Come on now Guys, lets own up to who you are, we are all good friends on the Forum - - do it in Real Life !.
If it means writing your name on a bit of card, some clear tape over it to keep the rain off- - -   just do it.

End of Rant !!!!!

I would love to be there, if even for a short while, unfortunately MrsJs family are insisting on a family caravan convoy (3 vans) to eastern France starting Friday. I keep trying to book the weekend for Wicksteed (sister-in-law only down the road at Thrapston), and have saved the badge for eventual use.
I WILL get to the do - one year, and may even have a boat to bring.

No trains running at all over weekend at all.
Can't get cars anywhere near lake this year as the left hand field is where all work is going on.
There is a new opening and path at far end of lake but don't know if you can get cars down there....
Title: Re: Mayhem at Wicksteed 2014
Post by: raflaunches on May 22, 2014, 01:35:01 pm
No cars are allowed to cross new paths because they are not Tarmac and only lightly built- will not support the weight of a car but the main entrance path is ok to drive down as we have over the past few years. The train will not be running for the next two weeks so we can put up gazebos as close to the railway fence as we like.

Hi JayDee

It's in the usual place, same place as last year. Instead of turning right into the campsite you turn left and follow the road down towards the driving ring and funfair rides and it's just before the railway line on the left hand side on the grassed area. There is parking signs saying mayhem parking. There is also a biggish sign in the parking area saying model boat users only.
Hope this helps

It's windy here on the A5 side of Northampton ……. so it must be windy at Wicksteed. Therefore what is the start time for the Gazebo flying competition?

Be warned I'm taking photo's for Marine Modelling International so please try and look partially human!

The weather for tomorrow doesn't look good and my new model isn't quite finished. As I shall also be forced to spend this whole afternoon in the pub with best mate Irish Dave I shall most likely see you lot on Sunday. Have fun in the meantime and I hope the weather-girl is wrong (but do you need sunshine to get thoroughly ratted?).

Well WHAT a day, seriously, you really should have come today!!!!

Started off wet... and then just got wetter and wetter, until late afternoon! But boats were on
the water all day, good selection of 'speed boats' warships, scale, fun & yachts.
(Note to self, speed boats and warships don't mix, ie. Liberty ships don't like being mounted across aft cargo hatch!)

The first attempt at the steering course resulted in a capsizing... and it wasn't even me at the helm!

Ian put on a very noisy 'flash bang' display and promptly (and willingly ) blew up two of his own
boats and covered the lake with confetti! Great stuff!

Deans Marine début his new boat, ten years in the making, the Dalvenie (spelling) And Ron let
me have a go! I didn't sink it or get it tangled up in something, as is my usual modus operandi....
but I did "touch" Tony's Japanese / Russian destroyer after he had just 'bent my ear' for
someone else doing the same thing 10 minutes earlier! BTW: The Dalvenie is a sweet ride!

There was also another surprise event (hereafter refereed to as "The 2014 Incident") which left
everyone speechless and agog.... but will never be refereed to again on this forum!

At about 4:30 a "squall" blew in, the likes of which I've NEVER seen or experienced ever before in my entire life! After a bright, warm, sunny spell (first of the day), a wind blew up with
such ferocity that I was completely soaked in the  10 seconds that it too me to 'run' 10 yards
between SteamboatPhil & Stavros tent and the Mayhem Marqee. What A Downpour!!!! And the rain was freezing too. Thanks again to Steve, Nick & Nigel for hanging on to the Mayhem Marqee
for dear life ... now referred to as the 'pole & rags'! The Peterborough club's flying marquee
wasn't as good as previous years...

..... told you you should have come!

Photos to follow shortly!

All of the weather forecasts for that area tomorrow look fair to good. Boat is finished and so I hope to see you all tomorrow.
BTW did you know that "kettering" is defined as the imprint left on the buttocks after sitting naked in a wicker chair? Not a lot of people know that............

That squall was something else! whilst hanging on to Ron Deans marquee, our gazebo took to the train track, leaving the boats exposed to the torrential rain. There was more water in my Marwina after that than I get sailing in choppy conditions. Took me 30 mins and half a roll of paper towel to dry it out.

Apart from that a great day, looking forward to tomorrow and the tropical heat (rainforest that is)  %% %%

Hi Guys,
I just wanted to thank Martin for a great day out, squalls and all. Del and I survived the wetting, who ordered that weather front <*<

It was really great  catching up with fellow mayhemers and thankyou for your kind comments on my new Asd tug ( Mustang Mark ). I nickname it my 'Christmas tree tug'. Oh before I forget thanks to Phil (steamboat) for the BBQ it was a shame as Del said we couldn't partake in some of the strange brews as we had the drive back last night :((

I hope the weather holds up for you all today and don't forget to put on your sun cream  8)

Well another perfect Mayhem......what I can I say....we have seen it all (and I do mean all. O0 ) from the great display of all the old style battleships ( poor Ron Dean tying to herd cats to get a good picture) flying gazebos, aliens ( %% ) my boat running straight. :embarrassed:a slight rain squall, my boat running straight ...again, sunny evenings......BBQ, and I do believe a couple of wee drams from our nice chums from Glasgow....and the ground was soft that's why I was woobly.....(Phil not running straight  %% )
Many thanks to all the Wicksteed guys who helped to make this surely the best model boating weekend, and of course our glorious leader, who's shirts seem to have been hidden away..(for the moment)and not to forgetting the most important of all our leaders lovely wife and daughter, Ruth and Gina who kept us all supplied with tea and coffee and brekkie this morning, you are stars.....
Great to catch up with all mayhemers and meet new ones, and Ian and I have an idea for one of my straight runners for next year (and I don't mean blow it up )so be warned..... :D
Hope all got home safe and catch up with everyone soon....
Oh and Jay Dee.....I survived tonight with boys from the North........just
And Larry.....that was Stav's straight running course  {-)

:-)   Morning all!   :-)

Well, sort of awake now,  so I've started uploading the videos to Utube .....
... 70+ files, 11+Gigs or video and 1,603 photos... !
I was sitting with Ian yesterday, chatting and snapping away and a camera battery ran out;
I said; 'damn the battery's dead!',
Ian said, 'not "blinking" surprised with all the photos you're taking! [or the substance!]

Another fantastic weekend with LOTs of new memories to made and lots to laughs had.
Dunno about anyone else but had a great time and my cheeks are still sore from all the smiling and laughter!

A Huge thanks to the Wicksteed Park model boat club who do so much to get the lake ready and  put the show on, Nick, Steve, Nigel, Paul, Maureen and ALL the other I didn't get names of... and in particular the Bar B Q girls! Nice new marquee this year, very posh... and strong! Tony, "Kasuga"!! The man has a joke, pun, anecdote, a quote for everything!

BIG 'shout  out' and thanks too to SteamboatPhil. who doesn't know the meaning of the words 'No', 'can't', 'won't', 'too tired', 'haven't got one', 'one shot is enough for me' etc. etc. Again thanks Phil for ALL the equipment you bring every year and your unbounded enthusiasm., Thanks for leaning him out Steph!

Stavros, Kelly & Catherine. Great troopers. "What's a little rain?!"
Stav was everywhere all the time as usual helping and rescuing and setting up and fixing and repairing and "yeah?!" all weekend. The man doesn't have an 'off switch!', how does he do it?!

Klunk aka Pete on weekdays. Boundless fun and enthusiasm, sun & moon & wind & rain... and a ferry crossing Sunday afternoon! We must get you a set of waders that fit you for next year!

Bill (D203): one of the few sane mind amongst the chaos.

Thanks to Big Bang Ian for the fireworks. We're planing something even nosier for next year!

The Scottish Liberal drinking party for the evening entertainment

Ron and Andy for ( Dean's Marine & Models by Design ) Traders beyond the call of duty.

All the clubs that willing came and challenged the infamous weather to do it's worse.... and it did!

To ALL the Model Boaters and Mayhemers that came, ran their boats and conquered! - Hats off to you!!

I'm sort of 'tea total' so have never had a hang over but I guess this is what it feels like!.....  O0

( Usual disclaimer: I know I've forgotten to mention some very important helpers and providers - please jog my memory... )

Many thanks to the local club, once again you were magnificent and made it possible.

Big apologies to Stavros, having now seen the video "A look at the weekend from the water!".

At 7:25 into the video there is undeniable proof that "Vital Byte 10" did in fact collide with his boat and dislodge the boat's camera. Stavros did show me the marks on his hull, but I can't see any corresponding mark on my hull unless it was the brass prow that caused the marks. I didn't realise he had a camera on board!

I can't believe the speed that the steam launch was shifting; at a distance it is hard to judge (including distance to other craft!).

Thanks Stavros for such a splendid view of the event; can you post some details on the camera kit, it certainly adds some drama to model boating.

Ian.

Back from another fantastic weekend and would like to thank the usual suspects, Martin,  Phil (honest! We did try to look after him Steph, it was that soft ground that made him walk funny),  Stav, Klunk(The Erector), BillD203, Jay Dee (The Explorer) going to get you a compass so you can find your way back to your tent mate,Kelly and the "bairn" Ruth and Gina, the guys from Wicksteed and all the others who worked hard to make this one of the most enjoyable events of the year.

It was nice to meet new friends and hope to see you all again at 2015 Mayhem bash.

Well it took a bit longer to rebuild my Dads van from tent/boat transporter to van than we expected- didn't help not waking up earlier and the alcohol consumption the night before!

I would like to thank Martin, Ruth, and Gina for thir epic manning of the tea tent during the famous squall and their excellent facilities especially during the Sunday, the bacon sandwiches were worth the wait!

A big thank you to Stavros, Klunk, Steamboatphil and BillD203 for their overwhelming support and never ending smiles over the weekend especially during perhaps some of the worst weather we have ever experienced at any of the Mayhem weekends.

I would like to extend my thanks to Ron Dean, and Andy and Debbie Griggs for their continuous support both as traders and friends.

Another thank you to Capt Povey (Graham) for allowing me the privilege of sailing his Caesar and Scout cruiser, I certainly enjoyed sailing with you, and the other Predreadnoughts and cruisers.

I think I had never seen Ron Dean so happy to see that many Victorian era warships sailing together, a big round of applause to Capt Povey, Victorian, Geoff, TonyH, Chuffy, and Tony Newstead for displaying their boats in one of the biggest gatherings of 19th century warships in a long time. A bigger gathering is being planned for next year!

The fantastic display by Ian McCaffrey and Carl was very impressive and look forward to seeing their future displays- well done lads, I was presented by Klunk a piece of wreckage to remind me of the time I spent in the Falklands. :-))

I don't think I've seen so much alcohol drunk by the Scottish lads, JayDee and Phil, well judging by the picture shown to me by Gingyer it looked pretty impressive!

Thank you to everyone who displayed, bought a boat along, visited, and helped this year, I think it was well worth the effort and it was great to meet up with old friends and new ones, here's to next year! :-))

And finally, I would like to say thank you to Brian (html). Whilst he couldn't make it to the weekend he was the driving force behind the organisation of the steering committee from November last year and it was unfortunate he couldn't attend.

Well Well Well where on Earth do I start

We arrived on thursday and we went to set up the caravan and put up the awning afterwards we were going to pop down to see the lads at the lake............We only just got the awning up when to say the heavens opened was an understatment..........thunder WOW rain WOW.......funny thing the lads wernt at the lake....I WONDER WHY.

Phil was allready at the camp site when we arrived back from raiding the local shops,so a chat ensued and we wnt for  awalk to look around the lake etc etc etc and consume a few beers...........Steph HE BEHAVED

Friday dawned dry and bright so Phil and myself had off loaded our stuff by 830 am at the lake side and went shopping etc..then it was back to the lake to set up Tea Tent Our Gazeebo's and the straight running course and the steering course ready for Sat........Nige and Elaine arrived on fri so we decided to aev a chineese as it was raining....OH and a few beers with our Scotish friends, and the rest of the Mayhemers.
Well one of the jobs we had to perform was to TOW Phils Disco as it ha ddecided to chew the starter motor so the good old Audi was pressed into servic eto get him going.....So off we wnet to the campsite...So Phil parked it by his caravan...BIG MISTAKE as we had a SOS Ron Dean was stuck in th emud so to speak So tow Phil yet again and go and rescue Ron...That Mission was soon aco, plished and Phil was WARNED park it at top of hill on campsite !!!!!!!!

Sat dawned Slightly DAMP but not our spirits,so lets get sailing and rescuing etc etc........and creating havoc,,,,,nothing new there  !!!!!!!......Well Phil decided to do some straight running so I was sent to the other end of the course to catch his boat.Phil being so ENGROSSED in his boat ddint notice ME trying to tell him |RAIN WIND on it way so mid run his face DROPPED when he realise dthe rain was dropping and signalled to me send it back.Never have I ran 100mtrs so fast to tear down the gazeebo backs to let the wind...NAH HURRIICANE thru .Boy was we lucky we got away with it...NOT so lucky were the Peterborough lads whose Gazeebo ended up on the train tracks or the Rnli who also lost their Gazeebo's....The tea tent just about survived.

Sat night well you can guess the rest..................We defo need to get Jaydee a sat nav as he couldnt find his tent....Nothing of course to do with the falling down water the lads gave him  O0 O0 O0 O0 O0 O0 O0 O0 O0

What an enjoyable weekend, even if the sky did open up a few times and experiencing the monsoon late Saturday, just as I finally got dry from the day's drenching ... so glad I invested in a better tent this year  :-))

Good to meet forum members again and to also bring my partially finished huntsman for a bit of a play, I might have it finished for next year's ;)

Ian, how the hell you recognised me from my West Wales MB group "crazy" picture in the dark I never know, good to meet you. Thanks to Klunk for helping Elaine put the tent up, the Scottish lads for the Whisky sampling and to everyone for their friendliness. Also, thanks to Stav, Kelly and Catherine for entertaining us.

Elaine (newly added forum member: Waternymph) took a few pics so I'll post them up soon.

Oh, I think she's caught the bug, looking for a project herself ... I think I'm about to lose space in the new workshop >:-o

Wicksteed 2014

What can I say  ? :- :-  :-) :-)

THANK YOU, to everyone who organised / prepared / ran the weekend.  :-))

Coming from as far away as we did, we had no clue what to expect, other than reports
on Mayhem from previous years .... we were welcomed by everyone we spoke to
(SWMBO is far chattier than I am !!).  %%

SO glad to have finally met some of the Mayhem cast of thousands, totally overwhelmed
and humbled by the craftsmanship on display.  :embarrassed:

If there is ever a next time, we'll be flying down with a small boat (Springer ?) in a box!!
1,158 road miles round trip in a car is sore on the bum !!! ;D ;D

once again, Thank You All.

Vic & Elaine. :-))

A WEEK TO RECOVER!!!!!!!
A WEEK, SERIOUSLY!
A friday set up by myself after my helper's car had a flat battery!
So I set my tent up,  JayDee's tent Nigels tent, johns tent, the scottish guys tent, Ian's tent any one else!!!!
Most of Friday night was spent quietly around a table full of liquid stuff talking about no other than Ghost and past mayhems!!!! Ghost is not forgotten!!!
Saturday, well damp but not old!!! A pleasant day spent retrieving capsized boats etc. Met a young Darren Carter and his Dad. Took the micky out of Nick and his penguin. No Im not picking that submarine up of your dad's mate!!!
The best retrieval/rescue ever has to go to Stavros and SteamboatPhil, THE 2014 INCIDENT.

Never in the Wickteed Lake, Has so much been rescued, with so little equipment!

The squall.............what can you say but wow! Ive never seen so many people holding on to so few tents and they were still lifting UP!!!! Thankgod the tea urn survived!!!

Saturday night, a big thanks to the Scottish contingent for the liquid stuff the humour and the micky taking of the Luton BBQ!! But where were your BBQ's at 10pm when it was getting nippy! the BBQ was great fun as usual.
If anyone next year wants to stay for the BBQ it is worth it!! the banter was friendly and jovial as is the norm at Mayhem.

The nectar from Bill was superb, as was that bottle or 3 from the Scottish contingent, I supplied the cinnamon firewater. Someone liked it!!!

Sunday. What a stark contrast from Saturday. Bright and sunny and exceeingly warm. some great sailing over both days, especially the edwardian / victorian sail past.

Thanks to Paul from wicksteed for sailing my Atlantis! Great pic of her heeling over!! Dramatic!

A big thanks to a few peeps.
STAVROS and Kelly. just for being there! nice to see both of you and the new addition Katherine!
Phill, the Scottish CONTINGENT, Jaydee (who can be talked into drinking!) Ian and Karl, Darren Carter and Dad the WICKSTEED MBC for all their help, Nick in particular! Ruth and Gina for manning the MOST IMPORTANT tent of the weekend, the tea and bacon roll one (where was MONK!) Ron Dean for always smiling no matter what!  Andy and wife from Models by design for just being there. Both traders stalwart supporters of Mayhem!

Bill D203 for being cool calm and responsible when none of us are!

And of course MARTIN! Mayhem would not happen or be the same without you!
And next year please stay for the BBQ mate!!! You will enjoy yourself even more!!!

All the best and here is to next year!!!

KLUNK

Mrs Steamboat Phill for allowing your other half out knowing that whatever promises he would make would be broken!

Yes Stavros (Dave) is the great stalwart or Mayhem at Wicksteed and the show couldn't go on without him. Same can also besaid for SteamboatPhilRAFLunches (Nick), Chuffy (Paul) & Steve & Nigel of WPmbc and Klunk (Pete C). Also to the Scottish contingency that provides wonderful evening lubrication I gather!

I should will give 'Bigup' to html( Brian ) who did all the organising this year but couldn't actually make it due family issues.

WARNING …… Wicksteed report now filed with Marine Modelling International.

It contains photographic evidence of a Stevenage boater abducting a ducking, Scottish modellers stroking creatures wearing kilts and men running around in rubber suits. There is a strange scene of a well known individual attempting to knit with pieces of bent aluminium whilst complaining he had trouble with wind.

The camera doesn't lie !!!!!

Anyway, must go …… an Alien needs my attention.

Steve.

Could some one update the home page please as its still advertising 2014 Wicksteed, it doesn't look good to newbie visitors to a website when the home page is so out of date; keep the photos but amend the text. If the dates advertised are 2015 dates then it would help to say that so people can plan their trip to Wicksteed well in advance. Thanks
