very mysterious! I dont think it has ever been revealed what she was carrying at the time,most likely nuclear warheads or gold bullion.The U.S. Navy made sure nothing else went near her. John? Dancey was the man who leapt aboard with the tow rope and I believe has recently cross'd the bar. Like the Torrey Canyon wreck,there is very little in the way of fish on the wreck.strange!

His name was Keith Dancy; he died a few weeks back and his obituary appeared in the Daily Telegraph. I remember as a child listening to the Flying Enterprise saga on the radio every night. They very nearly got the ship back to port.
Both Carlsen and Dancy were incredibly courageous men.

The Flying Enterprise's cargo was Zirconium which was destined to be used to encase fuel rods aboard the Nautilas, America's first atomic submarine. The use of Zirconium for this purpose was Ultra Top secret and explains Carlsen's reluctance to abandon his ship to salvors
