Morning everyone
Finally started the aziz and its a fantastic model
thank you to everyone who gave advice

Wow I just got my aziz delivered today
may I know what glue youll be using for the drive shaft and kort nozzle?
Thanx
-
im going to use 5 minute epoxy and thick zap glue i roughened up the metal alot after cleaning it so i get a good bond least thats the plan
-
I was thinking of using jb weld cor the kortnozzle hahah
tomorrow ill start with the cradle hopefully if im not busy
was accurate those marks for the nozzles and drive shaft?
Im thinking of re measuring it to make sure its on the right spot
-
Measure twice, cut once. :-)) :-))
Ned
-
:-)) exact da mmon do
what motor will you be using?
-
I found I had to extend the "A" frame slots forward by 1/8" to get correct distance between "A"frame and rudder tubes. See my blog if the build below.
Jerry.
-
Hi jerry thanx for the blog
Man I dont have any tools to make the sadle haha
opps
should I make my own thread for the aziz
I feel like im hijacking this thread :)
-

Jerry.
I'd be inclined to agree with this, I remember having to move my A frame slots forward but I couldn't tell you how much.
Nice start to your build, good luck and enjoy the rest!
-
Yes, I found the markings on the hull and the drawing dimensions didn't quite match, for both the A-frames and propshaft openings.
You'll need to make some choices yourself, but making sure everything is true and free before gluing is vital.
-
little update
i now have a intimate understanding of the term "fiddly"
finally got both shafts epoxied in and lined up "i hope" they look good and the numbers all match
it was a case of measuring 20 times praying once and gluing after applying gobs of tape to hold everything in place
here are the pictures
the Hull now gets put aside untill the speed control and bow thruster arrive from UK
going to work on the bridge and start applying the hull framing

Ah.....Two engines, two props, two sets of electric stuff
I'll keep an eye on this one
-
just waiting on the bow thruster
superstructure coming along well
plastic was a little brittle and cracked so that took time to sort
some sub components started
working anchor
lighting kit
fire monitors
going to run off a single speed speed control for now

Tip ................
Regarding the smoke stacks, it is easier to fit the ladder rungs and ancillaries before you secure them to the cabin.
Cheers
ken
-
I havent attached them yet thankfully as im waiting for the smoker to arrive so i can run the piping
thanks for the tip much appreciated
-
Looking forward to seeing more progress pics of this,
Ian
-
Still waiting on the last of the components "bow thruster and lights" to arrive so i can do the running gear up
did more work on the superstructure and drilled a tonne of holes
apologies for poor lighting my main work light just burned out

bow thruster came in the post today and was promptly installed
with that out of the way the motors are next along with the speed controls and other gubbins
(http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o262/Submug/AZIZ%20BUILD/IMG_0695_zps473d45f2.jpg) (http://s122.photobucket.com/user/Submug/media/AZIZ%20BUILD/IMG_0695_zps473d45f2.jpg.html)

-
What sort of angle is there on the motor mount ? It does look too much towards the horizontal.
Ken
-
its braced at a 45 degree angle so i can get at it if anything goes wrong a few people in my club have had problems with bow thrusters and were unable to get at the unit to fix them so they left them disabled which is why i mounted it this way
-
45 degrees back might work out OK, only the picture looks more like 80 degrees so I was worried.
The seal will stop water ingress to the hull so that's fine.
Cheers
ken
-
Looking at the MS drawings I'd say 60° would be better, to line up with the deck opening under the superstructure. But from the photo it looks like you have mounted it a bit further forward, so 45° might be about right. (The main thing is to be able to get a screwdriver in to the mounting flange screws.)
-
here is a better shot of it with the deck tacked in place
(http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o262/Submug/AZIZ%20BUILD/IMG_0698_zps7081f5d0.jpg) (http://s122.photobucket.com/user/Submug/media/AZIZ%20BUILD/IMG_0698_zps7081f5d0.jpg.html)
its very easy to get at as far as i can tell
and yes it is mounted much closer to the bow about 2 1/2 inches closer than what the plans state
motor mounts in as well

Darksheer....that is an interesting anchor winch motor/servo..... O0
Car to share how the mod was achieved?...does it run 360 degrees +? ..how do you control it?.....
Derek
-
its a standard servo with some simple modifications
I tore one down and took pictures
ill explain each photo
ok here is a standard futaba digital servo that volunteered for the operation
pretty much any servo will work
(http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o262/Submug/AZIZ%20BUILD/winch%20servo/IMG_0724_zpsfba3419e.jpg) (http://s122.photobucket.com/user/Submug/media/AZIZ%20BUILD/winch%20servo/IMG_0724_zpsfba3419e.jpg.html)
first thing you do is remove the 4 screws off the bottom and take the lower and upper half of the servo apart
(http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o262/Submug/AZIZ%20BUILD/winch%20servo/IMG_0725_zps435b6315.jpg) (http://s122.photobucket.com/user/Submug/media/AZIZ%20BUILD/winch%20servo/IMG_0725_zps435b6315.jpg.html)
next you pull the final drive off the top of the servo this might be on tight if it has a bearing race on it just carefull work it back and forth and it will pop off
once you have the drive off you will notice a small tab near the bottom of the drive stem this has to be removed so you get 360 traverse once its removed refit the post to the servo and make sure it rotates freely without catching
(http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o262/Submug/AZIZ%20BUILD/winch%20servo/IMG_0726_zps17f2102b.jpg) (http://s122.photobucket.com/user/Submug/media/AZIZ%20BUILD/winch%20servo/IMG_0726_zps17f2102b.jpg.html)
once you ensure it rotates freely look at the bottom of the post you will see a small slot inside the gear this bit attaches to a pot inside the servo that stops the servo at certain positions usually this slot is removeable and can be popped out with needle nose pliers if its not removeable you will need to drill it out making sure the pot does not rotate with it replaced
(http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o262/Submug/AZIZ%20BUILD/winch%20servo/IMG_0727_zps7a351419.jpg) (http://s122.photobucket.com/user/Submug/media/AZIZ%20BUILD/winch%20servo/IMG_0727_zps7a351419.jpg.html)
once you get to the point you need to plug the servo in and power up your system the servo will start spinning
use your hand dandy needle nose pliers to turn the pot that is under the final drive gear util the servo stops
NOTE: sometimes the servo is already at true neutral so you dont need to turn anything basically if it stops on its own after a second dont touch anything once it stops move the stick on the remote back and forth and you should see the gears move
at this point put the servo back together and you have a unlimited proportonal servo to use for anything you want
these servo's also make great motors and speed controls for small scale models like the lindberg coastguard tugs plastic kits
my lindberg diesel tug model is powered by a servo and i get 6+ hour runs off the reciever batteries which power everything
(http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o262/Submug/AZIZ%20BUILD/winch%20servo/IMG_0728_zps11b5e889.jpg) (http://s122.photobucket.com/user/Submug/media/AZIZ%20BUILD/winch%20servo/IMG_0728_zps11b5e889.jpg.html)
hope this helped
PS forum owner if this needs to get moved to a how to section or something please feel free to move it
and apologies if this is in the wrong section
-
Thanks Darksheer....I had read similar comments ....but the additional detail here is helpful..... :-))
I am sure Martin or other moderators will not have an issue with you posting detail here as it related to your AZIZ build thread
Derek
-
A very handy tip which is useful.
As an addition, it's a good idea to drop hot candle wax on the pot to stop it turning with vibration. (soft enough to alter it if needed)
ken
-
If you want to watch in greater detail there are lots of videos on youtube on how to make servo's 360 degree rotation.

David
No, they don't.
The Harbor Models unit has several different voltage outputs from a 12v input (3, 4.8, 6 and 12), all fed by fan-cooled linear voltage regulators. All outputs are via circuit breakers. It is quite a bulky affair and costs a hundred and twenty bucks in the US. With shipping and VAT you'd be looking at maybe a hundred and seventy quid in the UK. ACTion's power D/Bs are all similar in that they are fused and the output terminals are all at the same voltage as the input, with the exception of the 5v flylead to feed power to the receiver. You'd get six of them and change from £170.

Sorry! Forgot the currency conversion! Make that about £105 in the UK.

Thanks for the quick response Inertia.I have an Action DB on stock will have a bit of a rethink .Thanks again

here is a photo of my mobile sitting beside the power panel might give you a better view of its actual size
its basically the same dimensions as 3 mobiles stacked on top of each other
which in larger boats is almost nothing
the harbor models sound module is tiny about the size of a 20 pack of cigarettes but is insanely loud

things are coming together fast now I should have her in the water finished when the pond thaws in the next few weeks
everything is done its just a case of adding all the fittings and finishing the front deck off leaving that till last so its easier to get inside the hull if i need to change something

loads more to add today
she went in the water on sunday and it worked out well had a few small snags but over all very happy with the performance
fried the bow thruster speed control "was about 6 years old" that will teach me to recycle old parts
Y splitter to fire monitors cracked wide open "water stayed inside the boat instead of going out "
rear deck leaks like a sieve " going to seal the deck down with silicone people are right this is a very wet boat over the rear cargo deck "
adding the final detail over the next few weeks and once the weapons arrive she will be finished
enjoy the videos and pictures

ok2
Why I ? {-)
I find this very clean kit, that changes us the one that we saw recently. There are things which surprise me as the accommodation of the high speaker or the survivals orange but it is very well made and the paint is attractive :-)) :-)) :-))

Why?........possibly a little different to a recent AZIZ build >>:-( that did not take your pleasure .......Derek
