Title: Servomorphs

I am planning to fit a number of servo morphs from action electronics to my model of HMS Hood to allow the main guns to rotate through 180 degrees. I have a design from Action electronics but would appreciate comments form anyone that has used these for this purpose

Hi Vic, I have used ACtion servo morphs on my HMS Cossack.
I don,t know what your set up is going to be but I run
2 servo,s from 1 servo morph using a Y lead.
They are straight forward to set up for speed and angular degrees
using the 2 pot,s on the pcb board.

Not about the Servomorths, good product, but make sure your turrets are rigidly mounted,
 just seen a few 'wobbly' training turrets at Warwick... they look terrible!

Many thanks for the tips, I would be interested in the exact detail if possible. By the way have you tried for elevation as well (just trying to be very clever)

Vic.....elevation & depression of a mounting can be achieved by a semi circular camplate with ramps...so that when the mounting trains to port or stdb, there is a progressive elevation of the mounting etc
The cam plate can also be used to limit pointing to non pointing zones via micro switches...although you will have this covered by the ACTion components
Tension springs ensure a smooth depression via the camplate ramps when returning the mountings to amidships
Remember slowness of motion is critical for a life like depiction of a huge gun mounting train & elevate.......
I cannot think of an old movie where these sized mountings first trained and then elevated........it always appeared as a smooth harmonic motion......keep us posted with progress.....Derek

The Action servomorphs on my 'Dorina' only extend the travel to about 160 degrees but it may be the older type of servo.

Hi Brian. I have just purchased another 3 servomorphs for my 1/48th model of HMS Woodpecker. I have tested them on the bench, and they all work pefectly. They seem to be a reasonable price, and are available off of the shelf. I have found the service from the Component shop to be first class as well.
