Any Dr Who fans on Mayhem?
No program can live up to the hype BBC are throwing at the 50 anniversary special on Saturday!!!!
-
Only two "sleeps" to go - but I can't sleep! I'm too excited!!

Can't wait!
I'm currently watching Adventures in Time and Space on BBC 2 about the beginnings of Doctor Who.
The first tv trailer was brilliant, I think I counted over 60 items from the 50 years of Doctor Who!
Nick
Another minor whovian, I don't dress up if that's what you mean! :}
-
16 of our family are going to see 'The Day of the Doctor' on Sunday at the local cinema. Ages 13 to 73! %%
I am the only one who remembers the first episode. <:(
-
That's interesting, as it airs here in Australia this weekend, Sunday night our time. O0 O0 :-)) :-))

Also at 6.50 A.M. if you can get up then. {-)

Let's not lose sight of todays anniversary! The sad loss of a famous PT Boat skipper and namesake of one of the USN's aircraft carriers, oh and he was president as well.
-
Re: Kennedy, yes, the great hope that never was...... and the world loves a good conspiracy!
I also ended up watching BBC2's ' An Adventure in Space and Time.' very reveling about William Hartnell, he was very much in the jenre of "I am an ACTOOR!" and "Do you know who I am dear boy?!" I then watch the first episode of Dr Who on BBC Four.... why did they repeat everything they said 2 or 3 times?! Just to stretch the script out?! How did that program ever survive???
Re: %0 years. When was the last time you saw a Great Dr Who episode?!
Sorry Whovians, prepared to be disappointed... the odds are against it. :((
( Sorry chaps, this shoulder pain is making me into a right negative Nelly! :P )
-
Not a program I ever got into, even in the days of black and white I thought it was awful, the special effects were pretty ropey and the acting ?...got more pleasure from the likes of Fireball XL5, Stingray and Bill & Ben - at least the actors in those weren't quite as wooden!
time to get in my fox hole?

The first Series were broadcast live, can you imagine that today? Lots of Series were, with film Clips for the outside scenes. There were some hilarious bloopers then, but we didn't know better and enjoyed them anyway. You must realise that T.V. was only B/W and our Screens maybe 15 Inch. I remember the Play "1984" was also broadcast live, it made such an Impact that they did it again the following evening, also live.

anyone else played the game in the google banner about dr who yet (just click on a doctor in the google page)

Fellow Who fans might find this amusing!

I've been enjoying all the build - up programmes so far. Adventure in Space and Time was excellent and I started watching the first series last night. I too can remember that episode, tiny black and white telly with a fuzzy picture. Looks better these days!
Looking forward to watching it downstairs in the lounge this evening - and probably again later when technical guru son can get off his **** and get the Sky box connected to his giant home cinema upstairs!
-
Well? Verdict?
-
I'm still in shock.
NEVER has an episode of Strictly... taken so long to finish. %%

-
Well, absolutely amazing :-))
John Hurt was brilliant, shows what a fantastic actor he is.
Was very happy to see all the Doctors together to save their planet, and the sneak preview of the 13th Doctor was enough to get you interested for next year!
The references throughout the story were very good, the 4th Doctors scarf, the Schools governor was Ian Chesterton (the first companion), using each other's words from earlier stories, and plenty of others. Tom Baker looked like he enjoyed himself.
The opening credits was a brilliant idea using the original version
Hope the Christmas special is as good.
-
Did it live up to the hype? Not sure but very enjoyable and at least a bit of an oasis in the desert of the average Saturday nights entertain.
The only real criticism IMHO is I would still question whether Billie Piper is an 'actress'? She may be many things but an actress she isn't.

Must admit, she was better this time compared to when she was a companion.
Just watched it again on BBC iPlayer to see what I missed from the first viewing! :}

Yes she has perfected her only two expressions. The widening doe'y eyes and the half trout pout. It is not impossible she is the daughter of Nicholas Cage and the sister of Keannu Reeves.

Actress or not I think she played her part very well and do think it lived up to the hype.. Glad to see TB make an appearance, Shame Eccleston did not.
-
Yes shame Eccleston didn't but good that Catherine Tate didn't.
-
I really enjoyed it, and I too loved all the little references to the past.
Who spotted the green metal lampshade in an overhead shot? That lampshade was one of the favourite items of Delia Derbyshire, of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, and was used to create many a sound found in the original series.

Unfortunately for some reason Eccleston doesn't want anything to do with Doctor Who in any way. :((
Not long now until the Christmas special! :-))
On another note, did anyone else spot the amount of info that UNIT had gathered about the Doctor's past, wonder what's going on there? Do they know something that we don't? Should be interesting to see how that turns out, especially if you know your classic Who regarding the Valeyard storyline.
-
Struck me that they were planting a few seeds here and there to give them options for future plot lines that they can trace back to the special. Sort of hedging all future bets for spin offs etc.
-
Best part for me was my 9yo sitting with me loving every minute, we are also going to see it in the cinemas in 3d on Wednesday evening.
-
Have you guys seen this?

Thank heavens for that. F1 is in a mess thanks to him. %)

Tee Hee {-) {-) {-) Didn't know Bernie was a former Doctor !
After watching the 50th programme I have just bought the official BBC video box set "The Beginning".
The first three series with William Hartnell. Excellent. Defines the baselines for all that came afterwards
-
Didn't know Bernie was a former Doctor !
Must have been, he's successfully Lobotomised all the F1 manufacturers. >>:-(
Regards Ian.
