Title: Outlook downloading every e-mail..
Post by: tobyker on November 26, 2013, 09:32:34 pm
has anyone any idea why my outlook has started downloading every e-mail I've ever had, despite my having deleted them when I first read them. They are coming back "unread" and I have to st p receiving after  today's have come in. The trouble is, it has got back to Oct 2012 and says it has 14,000 to go. How do I stop it? I've told it do clear old messages off the server but to no avail.

I added a phone a month or so ago, but it doesn't receive e-mails from the same address as my Outlook. I do have that address on my Nexus tablet, but that is behaving itself and not uploading old messages. So it looks as if the problem is in the Windows PC.

In Outlook Express, there is a setting to store email on server (delete after XX days or when deleted from client ), sounds like it trying to catch up for the last 2 years?!?

Dunno whats happening with Outlook just lately. I have found I cannot send an email as a reply to one sent to me. It seems to add single quotes to each name and then the mail just hangs in the outbox. This is when I access my email account directly, however if I access it through webmail, ie the isp's webpage I can send emails however which way I want!

The lad is staying at the moment. We couldn't stop the downloads, so he set it to "headers only" and we downloaded the lot (all 14,000) and then deleted them. We reset to download messages and now we seem to be back to normal.
Thanks for all advice/interest.
