I am about at the stage to get some colour on the hull of Fairmount Alpine .All the info is on the plan where to position the water line ,due to the fact that I will be using 2 12 volt 9 amph batteries and all the electronics that go with the build ,there is about 1.2 kg of stuff plus the weight of the 2 batteries . I also know it will need more ballast .So I suppose the question is how do I work out where to mark the waterline or do I go with plan and wait and see if I have it wrong ,or finish the build then tank test to get it right . Is there a mathematical way to sort it out .
The practical way to do it would be to finish ,float paint .

If you know you'll need additional ballast, then paint the waterline as per plan, and ballast it to suit that waterline.
You could (theoretically) work out how to ballast the model accurately to its waterline before it even touches the water, but moving a bag of ballast about is much easier than the maths involved. Trust me! :-))

Thank you for the info .I had thought that would be the way .I sometimes find it is hard to convince myself the order of work.
