Title: Robbe Dusseldorf rebuild help needed please.
Post by: Chaos on December 09, 2013, 12:49:57 pm
Hi all,
Just returned to model boats after a few years away and have got hold of an old Dusseldorf or the MV Silicone Sealant as its fondly nicknamed to have a mess with.
It's probably going to end up as Frankendorf as I have a hankering to re build it as some kind of coastguard patrol boat.

I've got if fairly well stripped and it seems to me now would be the time to fit a bow thruster, is this a worthwhile exercise and if so what sort of size should I be looking for ?
Also I've rubbed down the hull ready to paint and in doing so have left myself with no idea or where the waterline was (duh!). Any chance someone has a set of plans or a boat they could measure for me please.
Also any "off the wall" ideas welcomed while I have a blank canvas so to speak
Cheers

Hi, This is my opinion, Bow thrusters are not worth the trouble, you have three props, the two out board ones will give you all the manoeuvrability you will require or desire. nemesis

I'd second that, they are impressive when used properly ( and are not noisy! ) but if you have independent motor control, you don't really need a bow thruster. They seem to me to be a lot of effort for little reward.

I'm in the process of rebuilding mine, I was going to put in a bow thruster too, but not worth the hassle I think. just going to but two esc in.

Thanks for the quick replies, thats good news being as that bit of dodgy epoxy has turned into half the deck off.
Also mine appears to be missing the centre drive the stuffing tube was being used as a water pick up for the monitors.
Any one tell me what's supposed to be there ?
Thanks

there should only be two motors and the middle pick up. only thing I hate it the noise of the gearboxes. this link will show the water line for you
