We've just been to Coniston for a pub lunch....nice!
We then went for a stroll down to the lake and it seems that the recent storms have had a good go at the launch pier.

So far, yes. There were a number of yachts going on unaccompanied trips along the lake too.

glad to hear you are good mate, ive been in the carpark before with high spring tides, you dont appreciate how much water is in a wave until it lands in a carpark and doesnt roll straight back out.
will the beach get back to how it was or is it permanently changed now?
-
hi red squarril if you know the beach car park you have seen the watering hole café on the beach at the moment there is a 10foot drop from the front of it..the 2 rivers that run into the the beach are being pushed back towards the town raining again not helping my garden

We here are (famous last words), high and dry.
However, some friends of ours who live on the edge of the marshes at Kirkby-in-Furness, on the Duddon Estuary, posted this photo (amongst others) on FB:
(http://i455.photobucket.com/albums/qq277/rbm109/1551706_10201531095619459_509407829_n_zps56ee0dab.jpg) (http://s455.photobucket.com/user/rbm109/media/1551706_10201531095619459_509407829_n_zps56ee0dab.jpg.html)
Their son also posted a video taken after this where the water is inches from their front door.
That was yesterday and they've been quiet since. Bit worried that the tide that night might have made it into the house.

Just saw this photo on Lifeboats24-7 and posted by Mick, and shows what is left of the "pepper Pot at the end of the harbour wall at Portreath, after the storm..........but when you look at the wave behind it, you wonder how even the wall is still there............
-
nearby this pier,is an island which is almost 80 feet high. The waves were ABOVE that.Safety fences were put up around the area, and people were climbing over them and ignoring advice not to,to get a better view. Absolute Idiots and that is being polite!
Never mind Gordon, your shed smelt before, you must stop eating food that gives you the wind! lol

They have it worst in the USA. It appears to be cold air being sucked down from the north pole. Our friends over there have never seen anything like it. The temperatures are a record breaking low.

Is the Day After Tomorrow coming true ... ?
-
Think you will all have to move north we have had some wind reaching gale force but it does not last and as for the flooding the sea level is difinately getting higher possibly due to the global warming.

I saw this on ebay tonight, and have been looking for one for somer time.......but it's a very strange excuse for selling so soon after buying..............

I'm sure there is a better thread somewhere for this, but I can't find it.
One of my distant relatives works in the shipping industry and I got this news through the family vine recently (some details changed to protect identities):
He has had a nightmare winter, as you can imagine. Ships not being able to get into port, not being able to get out of port and hanging around waiting till the Bay of Biscay is calm enough to cross. All very stressful. He had been talking to one of the masters about crossing Biscay and why he wasn’t venturing out because another shipping company were going for it. He told him they ‘had s*** for brains!’ He was proved right the next day when one of their vessels nearly capsized in heavy seas and lost half their containers overboard.
