Title: Vic Smeed
Post by: Nordsee on January 03, 2014, 09:53:51 am
I was given some old, very old"German Model Boat Mags, and found this photo. It was taken in 1957, at Ulm at the first Regatta that was held there. It Shows Vic with an M class yacht, it was one of only 5 RC controlled that were Registered in Germany. It was controlled by a Radio that was on 465 Mhz, the only one there. Anyone know more ? What model and why the complicated Rig for Jib, Looks like he has a Spinnaker there, the red sail. Were Spinnakers around then? Also, who is the red haired lad with him, anyone recognise themselves? From the Radio there is no sign, but he has a nice camera there! The Mag said that at the time, Vic was Editor of Model Boats, maybe there was some mention in a 1957 Copy...

Vic was editor of Model Maker magazine back then. It became Model maker and Model boats later on, then eventually simply Model Boats at some point in the 1960's.

Model Maker ran from 1951 to 1965, changed wholly to Muddle Boats in 66.

Is this the first (or only) published picture of Vic not wearing a tie?
