Title: 3D printed home
Post by: HawkEye on January 18, 2014, 09:01:41 pm

This could solve a few problems, but there again it may generate a load more .

"Professor Behrokh Khoshnevis has come up with a 3D printer concept so massive that it can print an entire 2,500 square foot home, and it can do it in just 24 hours (http://www.dvice.com/2013-2-13/wild-3d-printed-house-can-be-assembled-day). The printer consists of two crane-like arms and a crossbeam which houses the printhead. By printing super quick drying cement, professor Khoshnevis believes the printer would be capable of completing a two-story building in just under a day".

I can see this sort of thing being useful in a limited way.  I do recall the wonders of super fast cement being used in the late '60s, and a lot of people being fairly gainfully employed in the early '80s identifying structures built with the muck and replacing them.

is this the guy who put this forward for printing structures on the Moon/Mars rather than taking large quanties of steel etc, just the adhesive and a pressurised tent, then print the building domes from the surrounding materials, the deeper the material is, the more likely it would stand up to holding the pressurised tent within.
