Title: What size ESC

I am about to complete a scratch built patrol boat made from various thicknesses of ply and about 24" long. I intend to use a 550 motor with 7.2 battery.
My question is what amp of ESC should I use

I would use a 15 amp version and make sure it was fused at the battery.  This would be ample for your use.
