Everything looks OK.....but why do you have four width marking gauges?....
Three appear to be the same length & the fourth has an fine adjustment knob on the end :o
1. Question for Neil.......I cannot see a chuck key....... {-) ...
2. Can anyone name each tool?
I am having a little difficulty with the brass disks to our right of the fourth jack plane.......or above the Masonic symbol......... Derek

Hi
The smaller gauge you mention is a mortise gauge, I think ?
Ken

Thanks Ken....
1. there is also a 5th width gauge lying in the horizontal p[lane .....just below two of the medium sized jack planes.......
2. another question....what is the curved brass plate located just above the chuck end on the breast drill?..............could it be a divider & marked in degrees?
3. the wooden chisel handle ends look like they have never been used..... %)

Hi Derek
Could it be an external divider, marking gauge? For measuring spindles etc?
Ken.

I concur with Ken on this one.
A really impressive tool cabinet. Who's is it?
Looking at your questions
All 4 gauges appear to have a different scribing tool. A better resolution pic might help.
The brass thing above the brace chuck does look like a set of calipers, for measuring diameter. There are other calipers made of steel in the box, but these look like that they may have a gauge attached for taking direct readings; but this is only a guess.
As for the disks, I cannot even guess, a better resolution picture might help.

Correct the "wheel" on the mortice gauge adjusts the size, (thickens) of the mortice or tennon.
Also there are Five marking gauges one is horizontal in the left leaf with the planes.

OK.....what is the number of wood planes........of all types shown....block, sole, jack, fly,....+? {-) ....
Interestingly I cannot see a spoke shave.....but they could be in one of the draws......
TT...this image turned up in an e-mail.........I have no idea of the origin........Derek

Gents,
That famous tool chest belonged to Henry O. Studley, a piano maker from Massachusetts. Here are some links to information about it:

If you google his name you will get a few thousand hits.

Pete,
Interesting youtube link, shows Derek's spokeshaves, also guessed they were specialist tools and not your normal cabinet making set up

Nice woodworking effect Derek, but don't fancy his chances leaning over the headstock of an open belted lathe with even a short sleeved shirt. >>:-(
Regards Ian.

Just watching that was enough to give me nightmares. I could see at least half a dozen ways he could mame himself. {:-{ {:-{ {:-{
If I saw one of my students doing that I'd kick him from one end of the workshop to the other and it's a long workshop.

Is the brass wheels similar to those devices for measuring distance, like a pizza cutter? you see surveyors wheeling them and one rev equals etc, just a thought
-
I think they're for treppaing. %%

The link below is from tailUK........on PD's........the article details all of the components starting at the top left hand corner

Post number 7's youtube link shows the many other items beneath the clearly visible ones.
A very well thought out and crafted tool box.
Magnificent collection of hand tools.
-
Hows this for a little tool box :-))
-
maybe the rotary objects are for inlaying marquetry stripes into a groove, in different widths for different width inlays?

The brass discs are piano tuning tools which apparently work in a manner akin to a simple torque wrench.
-
Where do you plug it in? :}
Si?:)

There's a compartment on the back for all the power cords. %% %% {-)
