I used to have a van so when i went long distance to a model show i had no real worries about my models been on view but i have car now so stuff will be on view, Do you guys cover your models up when traveling about i as tend to drive for two hours then have a break at a service station just a walk round more than anything

I know it`s a pain, but all my models are in a box(out of display to prying eyes).A lot of my friends go to shows with there models in there transport(cars/vans) on display and when they get to there destination some models have been damaged in transit and that is why they have always got lots of glue in there tool box ! but that's just me

There is an older thread here... :-))

Hi Tim I have made a timber frame to fit in my estate car you have seen it loads of times. |Drop you seats down measure the height you need. your models will fit under this and you can cover the top so no one can see in. I use cheap kitchen rolls and bubble wrap to pack my models never had an damage problems using this method see you later. If time allows I will post a picture for you.

hi,
all my boats are in boxes, and then you can make a display as well. and they don't get damaged in transit and out of sight.
-
hi Guys
Thanks for the help and Thanks stand for the call i will make some king of shelf arrangement and go from there and if needs be drape a sheet over the models to hide them,i cant really make boxes for them as the models are large model hovercrafts
Tim
I will update when i have built something

I am not yet at the point where I need to consider the issue of hiding the models. I have a Mondeo Sallon with a large boot, but with the lid sloping down so multi masted ships might be a problem.
I have thunked about the issue in quiet moments and wondered about sewing covers to put over the top of the model shrouding the masts and yards but shaped so that they are not pressed by the fabric.
Perhaps a corset like frame sewn into the cloth to hold it to shape. This would also prevent the collection of that horrible sticky old dusty grime that ruins old models rendering them (for me anyway) the cause of days of sneezing, snorting and nose blowing. What about carrying them upside down in frames?

Hi guys this is what i have come up with i would like a shelf that's cut round the doors etc but i don't have the space to store it flat so i came up with two that are smaller and easier to store there is space for an overnight bag on the top too and tool box for batteries etc goes behind the model on the right

I like this idea, simple just like me. will have to look into this :-))
-
Yeah, it looks like things should stay put when travelling. I like the two plank idea as it would save lots of hinges and bits to hold the shelf together.
-
Yeah i wanted to keep it simple so that when i come to load up its a quick job the front Shelf will be bungee cord tied to the head rest supports just to make sure it wont move and the back one does not move easily with the wight of the model on
