Title: Slow engine ahead
Post by: iantype-r on March 30, 2014, 12:04:46 pm

Hello all,

I've just wired up my new tug with new ESC. The port engine is fine. The starboard engine just does not want to play. Astern it runs up just right, ahead it's slow. I've put the trim up to see if that affects things but does not really do much. What am I doing wrong?

Here is a vid

Can you let us know the make of Esc please. Is is a duel version or are there two ?

Some esc's run slower in reverse than forwards, so the motor wiring could be reversed

It looks like a Micro Gyro speed controller. have you tried running one motor wired in at a time instead of two together ?that way you will find out if it is the motor or E S C   Geo

Yes it's the micro gyros. I've swapped ESC and it's still the same. I swapped the channels over and it did the same on the other engine. So it must be something to do the transmitter. I've fiddled with trim but it still won't run the same as the port engine,

I've disconnected everything and wired the the problem motor up. Right if I use in in channel 3 which is the left stick it works absolutely perfect, when I change channel to the right stick it's running slow. Both trims at set at 0. If I put the trim up it does go up slightly but still won't run as perfect as the left stick/channel

That was the problem with Skysport transmitters with an idler on the stick which was meant for aeroplane throttle.

It is a straight choice of correcting on the throttle or keying in the reduced throttle endpoints into the esc (2 and 3)
Hope that helps.

Thanks for that mike. I've fiddled with the transmitter and managed to get them near enough the same now,

Cheers Ian

You going to the boat show on Sunday, could do with 2 more ESC for my trent class
