As the Trent got put on the shelf for a bit while i research a few things i want to do with it , i have been building the bargain Aziz i got just before christmas .
This has been one of my favourite builds so far . Think i may treat myself to an airbrush soon can any recommend a decent setup , compressor and gun .

For the airbrush it really all depends on what you want to pay. But you wont go far wrong with an iwata brush. but these are a bit on the expensive side.
I have used the Neo airbrush a few times and it's a pretty good piece of kit for it's price, a good starter brush.
It is linked to iwata but doesn't come with such a long warranty.
For the compressor again buy the best you can really, preferably with a tank that holds the air, as ones without you can get pulses while it's running. also adding a moisture trap into the airline helps.

I have done a bit more painting to the superstructure on the Aziz . I have also made a start on the rest of the handrails . Dry fit at the minute but got a day off today , so i am going to make a start soldering these up after i have a cuppa . Making steady progress . Going to have to make a start on the mast soon , i keep putting it off for some reason ;)

A productive after noon in the cellar . Managed to get the handrails finished and painted . Got the life raft cannister launchers into place . Also got some other fittings painted . The colour on the spare props came out wrong it looked bronze on the paint tin , but it came out looking copper . This has been rectified .

Thank you for the comments . I was making some more steady progress tonight until some oaf ( that would be me ) knocked the anchor winch off the bench . With Ca not being very shock resistant it reverted back to its component parts upon impact with the floor . No worries ill put it back together again , but no theres 1 bit missing and no amount of crawling about or sweeping the floor will find it . Ill bet that cat has run off somewhere and hid it .. I will have to email model slipway and see if i can get another casting .
Other than that i have finished the liferaft canisters , fitted some more deck fittings and done the boot topping line and named the ship :-))

cjcj..........that is one impressive radial piston motor there.. a long nose B400? :o ...without knowing the material...would a plastic weld cement not have superior strength? .....Derek

Hi derek . I couldnt tell you what hydraulic motors the winch would be fitted with but it looks like a radial piston motor . The fittings are made from white metal , i dont think contacta would bond them but i could be wrong i havnt used it myself . I was more annoyed at myself for losing the the piece than having to rebuild the winch .

sorry cjcj.... :embarrassed: ...assumed the winch components were plastic...white metal [with it's low melting point] is also very difficult to soft solder O0 ........Derek

I know it can be done using low melt solder but i have never tried , my soldering skills are not the best .
Got a few more deck fittings and the Hi-ab painted and fitted . Made a rather feeble attempt at fitting the
pre-printed ply sheet to the rear load area but made a pigs ear out of it . Then i remembered i still had loads of packs
of basswood planking left . So i had a try at planking the rear load area .
I know someone is going to point out that the planks are not true to scale but i plead modellers license your honour .
I think it looks ok and you wont see much of it when the deck gets cluttered .
Needs a coat of varnish now.

That deck is the thing that's going to give you most trouble when sailing cos they do leak. I tried allsorts but realised to seal I had to stiffen the deck longitudinally. The design precludes doing it from below so I stuck down two 20' containers halfway down the deck over the break in the central f&a girder. Macs mouldings used to make em.

For my 'Waziz' I've done something along the lines of Inertia's scheme above but hooking to the cross beams. There are a few pics with descriptions starting here:

Of course, as you already have the planking in place it may be harder to work either of these schemes and both require some flexing of the trailing edge as the hatch is slid in/out of position which again may be problematical with the planking.

Thanks for those ideas .With the rear deck being planked there is very little flex in it now , but the rear hatch is a nice snug fit . There will be plenty of clutter to help hold it down as well as the latch . Will keep my eye on it though .Not got a huge amount done over the last few days , been busy at work . Made a start on the foremast its not finished yet but its coming together .

A really impressive and interesting build.
IanPal's advice about a compressor is sound - get one with an air tank. They cost a little more but are a much better bet.
