Title: I'm still around
Post by: mermod on May 01, 2014, 07:04:12 am
Hi all, Just in case anyone has been following any of my builds I just thought I'd let you all know I'm still around and just as mad on boats but I've had a bit of a health issue that I'm working through, apparently I have a "syndrome" google SCDS, superior semicircular canal dehiscence, its a bummer.
Anyway I know there's nothing more annoying than following a build and having it stop abruptly for unknown reasons so now you know.

Hi I am not surprised to read it causes fatigue, what a nasty disorder hope you get over it, it must be very debilitating.

Glad that you are still around. Problems with the inner ear can be very frustrating, exhausting. I hope things will become more manageable as time goes on. My mates mum had a similar condition, and has both good days and bad days. I hope most of your days become better ones.

Take it easy Phill. take each day one at a time, hope you have more good ones. No matter what models you build they are just bits of wood, metal and plastic and they will always be there-so just take your time and look after yourself.

Thanks guys, looks like surgery is the only fix, even then the success rate isn't great and I would have to travel interstate to find a specialist, not sure if I should try now while I'm youngish or wait and risk not bouncing back as quick.

Mermod,

I thought Vestibular vertigo was bad enough but not so.

You need to find a good neurologist and as you say maybe on the mainland, Melbourne perhaps.

Success rate with ops is everything, however if it is effectively altering your quality of life and there is no possibility of improvement or you are unable to minimise the effects, an op may be your best shot.

You are still young and medicine is making advances all the time, without being a wet blanket anything to do with Vestibular doesn't bode well. Catscan and MRI if not already done, will clarify what is going on.

Good luck and take it one day at a time, as all else has to fit in with that.

Sorry to hear that it sounds like a real bad thing you are suffering from and I would take any and all options to get the better of it if I were in your shoes and the younger the better all operations have a higher success rate the younger you have them. Wish you all success whatever action you decide on you have my best wishes and sympathy.
