Hi all,
I am fairly new to the forum so please bear with me...
I have 95% finished my Deans Marine "DUCK" and i thought i would just post some pictures on here, the kit is a fantastic one and top marks have to go to Deans,
I have built it so it runs as 6 wheel drive, one MFA motor runs the front wheels and the other runs the back four linked with dog bone shaft.
It as turned out to be brilliant vehicle which will easily drive in and out of the water and a little different from the norm.

Looks great!!! :) :)
Darren
-
Thanks Darren i must admit it does draw quite a bit of attention down at the lake ;)
-
Looks really great.
Have you really varnished the inside of your shed ? ???
-
;D All 32ft x 12 ft of it! ;D
-
Nice Mota Russ!
Can you tell us about the axles and suspension please?
(it's looks complicated ..... and expensive!)
Has she been land and sea tested yet?
Martin
-
Hi Martin,
The axles/differentials and leaf suspension are Robbe kits which they use on there trucks, these can be supplied by AMODELWORLD, they come as kits which are built up and can be coupled together with dog bone type couplings.
I tested the duck on land with ramps made up to about 40 degrees which were no problem, on the lake the scale speed is superb and really looks the part.

Well done on a good looking model
can I ask do you have separate controls
for speed and steering in and out of the water
or does the rudder turn when the wheels turn
and the prop turns when driving on land
Colin
-
Hi Colin
Thanks for that, yes it is using 5 channels at the moment everything is seperate, rudder, steering, prop and drive and i have a bilge pump to connect up soon.
Russ
-
Looks good, I have thought about on e of these kits.
Yours is too clean though ;D ;)
-
Thanks Tiger Tiger,
I only cleaned it because of putting the pictures on the forum!
Glad you like it. ;)
-
Hi Russell,
a nice model you have made up there, and something different too.
May I ask you about the turning-diameter in the water and on land?
I have seen this kit all before, thought about buying one- but comparing to the quality of the other Deans kits I left it....
Happy modeling,
Jörg
-
Hi Jorg,
The turning circle in the water is around the meter and half mark and more or less the same on land.
I couldnt fault the kit really, this was the first one of Deans that i have done and i enjoyed it , like you say it was something different.
Cheers
Russ
-
Can you give a bit of detail on the wheels/axles etc.
Thanks
Frank
-
Frank,
The axles are Robbe ones which they use for there trucks, these come as sperate kits each with there own diff, the wheels and tyres are from a company in Germany who specialise in scale trucks.
The suspension is leaf spring all round again these are Robbe kits.

Brilliant! What a novel change from ships!
-

-
I have some on my phone i will try and download them ???

Some pictures from the weekend........
-
Looks really good just need a
big landing craft for it to come out of and
into the water O0
Colin
-
No need! 6 wheel drive so it can drive itself in and out on a decent slope ;D O0
-
Looks very good. O0 A few crew members would make it look even better. :)
-
Yes i thought about it but i cant find any that are the correct scale?
Action men are to big and figures like GI JOE are too small? :-\
-
What scale is the DUKW?
-
Lovely looking model.
I've never made anything to scale - yet, but if I did I'd like to make a "Stalwart" High Mobility Load Carrier.
I drove one in the army MANY years ago. It was a more modern version of the DUKW and was also a 6 wheel drive, amphibious truck. It was British and made by Alvis but I've never seen a kit for a model of it and the thought of doing a scratch build .........
I must say your information on the wheels and suspension might give me second thoughts though.
I don't suppose anyone's come across any info on the "Stally"?
If not - I could see me being sorely tempted with the Duck (probably never look as good as yours though).

a comany called Accurate Armour
has launched a 1/35th scale resin model
they are a good company and may
have plan for it

1/12 scale
look for some old Tamyia Formula 1 figures
they come sitting or standing then you can customise
them into what you want
I used them for a lifeboat once
Colin
-
Thanks for that Colin, what height were they standing? 6 inches or so?
Russ
-
:)Hi Russell.
!/12 figures from Tamiya sadly no longer available in the u.k. The last ones that one of our club members obtained came via contact in Japan. I understand that they are not made any more in Japan but if you want i can make some inquires for you . :)
-
hi Russ,
Stan is right they are no longer available but they turn up on
ebay. They stand about 6inches tall there is some 1/16th scale
figures about that are military also if you look about some of the
military modeling sites you may pick some up

Look in the 'Pound Shops' at the toy section. They have lots of jointed 6" high figures (mainly seem to be fire/police men) the bonus is that most come with accessories such as radios, binoculars, axes etc. All my 1/12th scale lifeboat crews are modified from these figures.
-
They look good, will have a browse this weekend and see what i can come up with, i am also looking for some figures to manipulate for my PT-15. :-\
-
Dear ALL
Scale of the DUKW is 1/10 Deans Have a range of dressed bendy figures and weapons set, toy type to fit in to the vehicle

Any chance of a couple of pictures of the figures?
Many thanks

Love that DUKW!!!
And remember- the Duck may not be the prettiest boat on the highway, but she's the fastest truck on the water!
-
Interesting thread - great looking boat/truck/thing ! I have seen these before and would love to have a go at one !
I had a look at the Acurate Armour website too - they have an M" Aligator on there - imagine how impressive that would be in 1/12 scale !
Superb build - really got me thinking !

Deans Marine do some mini action man type figures in that size!
Used them on my DUKW
As used by Royal Marines today at ATTURM , Instowe , North Devon.
They still have 4 of them fitted with replacement diesel engines, hence the exhaust stack visible in some of the photos below

For interests sake
Eduard do a set of brass etch fittings for one of these in 1:35. from 'Hannants'
I photocopied/scanned a sheet, resized it and then cut bits out of brass sheet to add detail.
