Title: Chatham's Colour Loft
Post by: flashtwo on June 02, 2014, 10:00:37 pm
Hi Mayhemers,

I've just had the unique opportunity to make (only kidding) my Red Ensign for my newly completed Edwardian Steam launch "Vital Byte 10"  where HMS Victory's colours were made.

My daughter has been studying for her Fine Arts BA at University of Kent's School of Arts located in the Chatham Historic Dockyard, the last two years, of which,  she has worked in the old Colour Loft.

The Sail and Colour Loft had been converted into art studios (excellent natural lighting), but some examples of the old treadle and electric industrial sewing machines are still displayed inside.

You can see that the tradition of the "Colour" loft has be maintained by the art students!
