Title: electrics for a footy

I am thinking about building a couple of footys for my grandchildren. limited yacht building experience but construction looks pretty simple. However would appreciate any advice on the best radio gear to use for these wee fun boats.

Cheapest 2 channel 2.4Gig radio you can get!
But do get good (rechargeable) batteries as  servos used for sail control can give the batteries quite a punishing!

A two stick radio methinks.
Don't get a trigger type as the little ones
will not learn to sail with it.
I've got a 5 and 4 year old trying to understand
where the wind is coming from. It's hard work {-)
but entertaining!

So bog standard equipment will do, not necessary to fit micro servos?

Hi,

In my Footy I use standard servos but they are the waterproof ones.

The receiver and batteries go into a plastic bag.

The weight and torque of the servos  should be considered.  In a
 tiny boat like the footy, weight will be a big consideration I would imagine.

Waterproofing you can do yourself if you wish with any servo. I use silicone and some grease. I made this video a while back that shows the method...
