Final detailing has commenced, hope to start trimming and ballasting early this week.
Rich
-
Rich, can I ask a big favour?
When you start the trimming/Ballast, can you do it one evening and I'll pop down to watch, I can learn how it's done from an expert then.
Oh by the way it looks really good mate. :-))
-
Just thought, If you do let me watch I can help lift it in and out of the tub for you? {-)
-
Sure mate, I'll let you know when I'm ready. Between the two us we may be able to lift it...
**********************************************************************************
Definition of the word 'expert'
'Ex' equals past it...
'Spurt' equals a drip under pressure...
I qualify on both counts now. :embarrassed:
Rich

nice rich very nice :-)) must admite that from the title did think you were trying to tell us something , {-) well you are 65 today happy birthday mate
-
Thanks mate, appreciate the good wishes. I wasn't happy with the towed sonar bulb, so this afternoon I ripped it off and repositioned it...only 1/8" out, but it looked horrible to me. Much happier with it now...bollards are on, just the periscopes to finish off and we're there.
Oh, tractor's packed and will be on the way Tuesday.
Rich
-
I didn't realise it's your birthday today.
Bus pass on it's way now then %% {-)
Many happy returns mate.
-
Thanks Ian, much appreciated. Yep, I'm officially an old fart now...now's the time to build smaller boats. :embarrassed:
Rich
-
Looking realy nice Rich, quite menacing in fact. How many hours do you reckon the build took? I think I might get back in to subs when I finish my latest project. Good luck with the sea trials.
Cheers Rich.

Thanks Phil...to be honest, it's been the easiest boat I've ever assembled (apart from opening the flood holes in the deck, I had to ask Chris to do those for me, my hands and fingers just wouldn't let me do them) but apart from that, the whole build took me about a fortnight, inbetween 'bad hand' downtime.
I didn't rush the build, just did a hour or so here and there, and enjoyed it...the way the kit is made it more or less falls together. I think the fitting out of the module took longer than the rest of the boat did, and most of that was making the cam that operates the ballast tank valve.
Expensive...well, yes it was. Including the new FC-16 radio I bought for it, plus the other odds and bits (leveller/esc/ball raced servo/the prop/etc/), I guess I've over a grand invested in it, but I paid for it out of my insurance claim winnings against my former employers, so it didn't really hurt that much. It was going to be my last sub, but that failed...I've another one waiting in the wings!

HI Rich
It looks a nice size for transporting around looks as it has got a lot of detail as well, i have got to make a smaller one myself which i have got but have got to make the time to get on with it. Just been talking to some company about sonic link for surveying for under water will have to see what happens
You said it was expensive to build but what isn't today any way hope the launch of the sub goes well
Sub John
-
Hi John,
Yes, it was a few quid, but then I don't chase women any longer (I couldn't keep up nowadays, and if I could I couldn't cope if I caught one), I don't drink to excess (maybe a can in the evenings, but that's about it) I don't go pubbing and clubbing, so I guess I can justify the expense.
It's 44'' oal, pretty heavy but manageable, nowhere near as heavy as my Lafayette was, and it's reasonably well detailed. It's not a scale boat by any stretch of the imagination, more what we used to call 'stand off scale' but with a few bits of detail added here and there, it looks pretty good...I'm well pleased with it.
Are we going to see the monster at Norwich, John?
Rich
-
I think that'll do for detailing...the sail hatches are done in the closed position, attack 'scope is raised (if I fit any more appendages I just know they'll get wiped off), bollards and hatches fitted...yep, that'll do.
Rich
-
Added the safety tracks on the deck this morning...just the sonar domes to go and that'll be it.
Rich
-
Sonar domes and access hatch made and fitted. Quick tidy up with the wet n' dry, then it's out with the rattle cans and a quick spray job.
Rich
-
Very nice Richard!
-
Thank you Tom!
I was going to spray the deck fittings this afternoon, but it's just too hot inside and out, and I'm struggling to breathe as it is, so maybe paint fumes aren't a good idea..... <:(
Rich
-
Very wise mate.
You do know if you feel up to it your welcome to bring it here to spray it, I can clear a space in the garage.
That way it's not outside where flies a poop can land on the tacky paint.
The bedroom isn't a good idea to spray, not in this weather anyway lol
Ian
-
Thanks mate, I appreciate that...mind you, paint fumes do make me sleep well ;D
Rich
-
Yes and have funny dreams too! LOL
-
Ah...yes...that is one sideline that I can do without, Tom!
Rich
-
HI RICH ,
I REALLY DON'T KNOW how You do it :o , but every thing You touch gets a WONDERFULL shape , and looks like should be :-)) .

Rich she's looking really nice! Can't wait to see her finished. I'll be incorporating some of your detail onto mine hopefully! I've also got three sets of dry run decals from scale ships, if you fancy some give me a shout.
-
Thanks Tom, much appreciated. I thought I had finished her, but I keep finding bits and bobs to add. The navigation lights are installed now, and the submarine warning flashing light is done. There is a white light on the top of the towed sonar bulb, still got that to do.
