Title: Zen 30/31
Post by: Brigadair on September 14, 2014, 08:21:10 pm
1048 walbro carb needle settings?

Just wondered what people  used and thought best?

H 1 and 1/8th, low 1 and 3/4?

Or

H 1 and 3/4, low 1 and 1/2??

Or somewhere I between?

I realise settings depend on many factors, pipes, pipe lengths, props, etc etc.

Just wondered if any favoured settings?

Hi Garry

When I bought my Zenoahs from Dave Marles, both the stock engine and his tuned Zen 7 (old hat now perhaps), his recommended settings were richer on the idle needle and leaner on the high  speed needle. His recommended settings proved bullet proof throughout the throttling process.

I can not comment on the latest tuned engines and bigger bore carbs. I guess it is down to trial and error unless folks are willing to share key experiences %%

Stock setting was H 1 3/8 low 1 1/2
Im running H 1 1/2 and L 1 1/2

The 1048 carb has alot of settings that work... Look at car forums and they are different again.

i found i kept getting a bog on Low when the High jet was rich.

during sunday my settings on K30 were
H 1 1/2
L1 1/2

changed it to
H 1 1/4
L  1 1/2

This will probably change again with abit more fine tuning to do and also modded the air intake into hull ;)

Magic No. is (3) like Kurt suggests but you have to find the combo............for me its 1.1/4H x1.3/4L useing Walbro 257 std carb... you could try the WYK 33. now thats a different ball game..and a lot better .....JMHO

Thanks Craig.

What setting do you run on low and high needle?

Hi Garry
Sorry for not replying sooner. My settings are Low Needle 1 and 3/4, High Needle 1 and 1/8. However bearing in mind that I am running the smaller capacity Zen7, with modded Walbro 257 carb and submerged drive, I suspect my information will be about as much use as a chocolate fire guard! {:-{

The comments from others have been very helpful and interesting to read. Thank you to all of you :-))

Hi all

Thanks for your honest replies on carb settings.

I'll add that lot into e mix soon. Your advice appreciated,

One thing that is apparent is that the 1048 carb is quite a flexible bit of kit, in more ways than one.

Hope to see as many of you as possible for a great racing venue at Leicester this Sunday.

Cheers
Garry
