Wow that's stunning! I've always wanted a zubr. Do you have any plans or details of how it was built/powered?

Hi chaps.
Many thx for the kind coments.
Ths lcac is powered by 2  brushless motors running through a home made scratch built ball bearing raced propshafts for thrust.
Lift is provide by four double entry double exit centrifugal lift fans. these are powered by a 600 size brushed motor with a 2:1 belt drive gearbox driving the shaft on 4 ball bearing raced housings all scratch built inc the fans.
The fans are double entry ie they suck air in on both sides and expell it around the circumference which effectively gives you 8 fans 4 per side.
The zubr has 4 single entry lift fans 2 per side on brushless motors and 3 larger brushless for thrust.
Will post some more pics now there is some interest.
Regards sub.

Hi,
Sorry for late reply.
The LCAC took 6 Years to build and the Zubr took 2 years.

Will update with some build pics soon.

Great, great model. I've seen your sidewall model as well, I think.

Question: Do you use centrifugal fans or do you get away with propellers for lift? One day I'm planning to build the SRN2. I want to use centrifugals but I'm not sure how to dynamically balance them. Could get noisy!

Hi.
The answer is both. the lcac has two double entry centrifugal fans per side ie they suck air in at the centre on both sides and expel it around the edges of each so effectively i have four fans per side equivalent of eight single fans in total.
I build them from the central drive shaft outwards then to ballance them put the shaft into a lathe chuck and i make them slightly oversize and use the lathe to turn the circumfence down a little making them concentric to the shaft....works for me then a thin coat of resin to help hold them all together very smooth on running through the ball raced geared drive shafts i made.

Thanks for the info. Of course, it would have saved you the trouble if I'd read the thread properly.........

I think my model will need to be about 5 ft long to get any chance of stability so I will need to make a pair of sizeable fans. Maybe I will try that first!
Not starting till next year at the earliest but I will post plans when I have them.
