right I leave my radio tuned to the station radio cornwall lock up shed . next morning I have to retune gone off station WHY.. that's it

Even FM signals can drift a little but the most likely reason is an old radio. You can get Radio Cornwall on-line if you have your computer down in your shed (just plug in some speakers) or treat yourself to a DAB radio. I was amazed to find that you can buy a new one for less than twenty quid these days. The days of Bakelite receivers and Hilversum are gone................

Try and borrow a DAB radio as some of the cheaper ones are not very sensitive.
Reception is a bit hit and miss in some areas.
Try one out where you are going to use it to make sure the signal is strong enough
before parting with the hardearned pittance AKA pension O0 O0

I've just tried putting your postcode into a couple of DAB websites and been told that DAB reception is not available in your area.

That's the problem. When the power goes off the memory goes. I suspect there is a battery somewhere that is supposed to retain the memory, but it has failed. It will only be a small coin size battery. Give us the name and model of the radio and we may be able to tell you where to look.

my dad had a similar problem, he was given a tv / monitor so he could use it with his computer / watch tv, they spent an hour setting it up, then he didnt want to use it, so he unplugged it (as he does with everything) and next time he went to use it it needed programming again, he sent it back the same day.

Dab the biggest con ever even the beeb admits its not as good as FM.

DAB is only available in Australia if you live in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide or Perth. Apparently the other half of the population doesn't matter to the Government >>:-( , but I already knew that %% .

DAB is available on tap at the German Arms Hotel in Harndorf [South Australia].......comes in 500 ml and 1200 ml steins :kiss:

It's fine up here - noticeably clearer than FM (or I wouldn't use it) - and now I've got a decent little 'mini' system in the workshop I don't have any of the problems I used to get with it dropping out. I guess it's down to where you are as well as what you're listening on.

Is it a radio that has a tuning knob that sweeps a pointer across a dial? Or preset type, with or without a digital display?

Well the plans to switch off FM have been scrapped so what does that say about DAB . Apologies Regiment none of this applies to your problem. But recommendations for Dab get right up me hooter :}

No offence was intended, Jay. I simply suggested that DAB might be a solution (rather than recommended it) because I personally have no trouble with it drifting off channel and it is clearer than FM where I live. We've now established that it's not an option for Gordon. I think that the best for him now would be on-line via broadband, using simple plug-in speakers if he has a laptop in the shed or Bluetooth wireless ones if the computer is in the house.

None Taken DM nor meant nothing wrong with suggesting it as you did with a get out clause ( as well as what you're listening on.) though I would have also said what you are listening to :-))
Afraid I go back to the days of an HT battery and an Accumulator and followed every advance in radio ever since I thought DAB was going to be great but alas :((

Just for a couple of minutes this morning I listened to Radio Cornwall on-line, just to see if it worked - it does! My default DAB station is BBC Radio 2 but I do occasionally delve into R4, R4Extra and, of course, R5S+ when there's any cricket on. I like to suffer....... <:(

In theory it should be... Sadly like many things in practice it isn't for a majority of people. The dab radio in my dads car was an expensive factory fit option (Bose) and it is hopeless 90% of the time. Luckily it still has fm and the car was bought 2nd hand

Back to regiment's problem. My Roberts FM radio has presets which are maintained by a coin battery - that's why I asked if he turned off all power - same thing happened to me.

hi barriew the radio is a crown clock radio model no cdn 190 the 9 volt battery connection is missing so no back up for clock still look on the bright side inertia has saved me from wasting money on a new one Gordon

Only two hits on Google for Crown CDN 190. It looks like it's a radio/alarm clock, in which case the 9v battery is usually just to retain the alarm setting if there's a mains failure. The radio tuning is generally manual (via a rotary knob) with all the lack of precision that entails. You ideally need an FM radio with a digital tuner i.e. one that scans for strong signals and allows you to select and set them as "favourites" - like a car radio does. I found this cheap and cheerful one on Fleabay inside a couple of minutes Googling. It's DAB but also has FM.
