Title: Joffre motor
Post by: Terry on October 22, 2014, 04:28:29 pm
Age old question, but my head hurts, I have read so many posts on this subject this afternoon. Motor recommendations for a Caldercraft Joffre tug please. It is 775mm long, and has a 40 dia. prop and I want to run it on 6 volts. I am thinking of an MFA geared motor giving 3000 rpm @ 6 volts (are they noisey)? Any advice/suggestions please.

Cheers, Terry.

Those gearboxes are very noisy. I'd go for this motor on direct drive. I have two of them and they are quiet and powerful. http://mfacomodrills.com/motors/540ln.html (http://mfacomodrills.com/motors/540ln.html)

Is there any reason why there are two threads about this?

Terry, my tug is powered by an MFA geared motor, metal gears that I greased on installation and I don't think it's that noisy and has plenty of power.  O0
