Hi all.
Thank you for allowing me to joing this wonderful forum.
Not new to boating but fairly new to building boats.
I have been flying RC helicopters, Planes and gliders for about 30 years but have really only got back into boats after my
9 yrar old pestered me into getting my old (20+years) MFA Fantome up and running.
Build has started but plenty of questions may follow.

Hi all and thankyou for the welcomes.
A few toy rc boats converted and maidened and an MFA Fairey Fantome being worked on and converted to electric from 10cc glow.
The Fantome is 20+ years old and has been on the water once to find out how much work is going to be involved, turns out it's not too bad.

Hi Pete
I am also newbi
I live in Woolaston, Lydney i have 48 inch Fireboat
Have you ever sailed a model on the lake at Lydney park or is it possible.
regards
Ray

Hi Ray,
Nice to find dome one local.
I was sailing on Lydney lake last week with my two youngsters, One of my boats is a bit noisey and was told by one of the angling club bailiffs that model boats aren't supposed to be on there but have seen loads sailing on there in the past, Back in the 80's it was used for the Marblehead championships for a while.
I'm waiting for the town council to get back to me with Clarification, it is a boating lake after all.

Hi Pete and Ray, welcome from a couple of miles away in Blakeney! :-)) Ignore the anglers at the lake, if you get any more problems with them and let me know, I'll get the bouy layer crane working and go hook their lines up! {-) Otherwise Mallards Pike's a nice place to boat
-
Hi Dannypenguin,
Thanks for that i nearly fell off my chair laughing, Mallards Pike looks good to me one of my favourite places to go for a walk and could even tempt me to buy a season parking ticket rather that parking across the road ;) .
Is there any restrictions at Mallards Pike apart from the I.C motors that would be an issue?
I seem to remember quite a few years ago the need for a permit for any boats on the pikes lake but I have seen quite a few on there over recent months with RC.
Gloucester boat club also use the waters a couple of times throughout the year so I have noticed in recent years.

Us tight foresters wouldn't do such a thing ok2 Oh wait...

Not sure now you mention it, I've used it only with electric, just made arrangments to pull it out of the water if any of the forestry guys come though. Also, don't do what I did and go too close to that big drain thing in the middle, thought the boat was gonna dissapear!
Gloucester also use the Over Canal Stretch, been up there just to visit once, was quite nice really, just a bit far for me having to rely on the parents to get everywhere.

Almost feel the need for a local club/get together lol.
Most of the times I have been out i have been out with my children but you are right if the forestry people say anything i would just act
dumb, apologise and ask if there is anywhere where i could sail without any hassle.
Looking into building a footy class sailing boat too as a small winter project, I haven't sailed boats for about 20 years as I usually fly but wanted something different to do to broaden my already bulging hobbies and allow my children to join in without the fear of having to lose a model plane to them :-)

Good news,
I have had confirmatyion that as long as I use the bottom end of the lake (the car park end) and keep away from any anglers then there is no reason as to why electric or sail cannot be used.
Its just a case of the anglers wanting all the lake, but we also have to consider the wildlife and not chase it.

nice one peter :-)) if the fishermen moan simply say your chaseing the fish down there end ;)
-
I did get a thankyou last time i was there as the angler a few pitches down hadn't caught a thing all day.
Within a few minutes of the boat running he had caught two :-)
