Title: LESRO SUN TUG XXI motor
Post by: witherswilliam on November 11, 2014, 03:48:43 pm
I have just aquired a Lesro Sun Tug XX1 and after seeing the size of the prop was wandering what size engine I would need there is nothing in the instructions to give any idea.

what is the size of the prop, and is it a 3 or 4 bladed prop fitted and does it have a "steam" prop...........a prop with a much courser pitch than a normal one, William...these factors have to be taken into account when choosing any prop, so as not to over work the motor that you decide on.

I have never seen this model so don't know what length it is, but being a tug I reckon it has plenty of draught, meaning a motor of some substance

The prop is a 3 bladed 70mm and the overall length of the hull is 35 inches and the beam is 10 inches

I would be inclined into putting the "equivalent"of a Torpedo 850 into it......plenty of grunt on 12v and decent amperage from a battery will last an hour or so sail.

However I say equivalent because there are motors of a similar size which are even better on power drain and more torquey and can be found on ebay for less dosh.
