Ok so ive been given the green light by the boss to get myself an xmas present. Im looking at the fleetscale 1/128 HMS Hood semi kit. Its about the size im looking for and should give me plenty to reserch and get my teeth into for 2015. I just wonder (before i part with so many hard earned £££) if anyone has dealt with fleetscale and what their Hulls are like etc etc. Any help would be very much welcome.

Never had a problem with Fleetscale myself.
Give them a ring, I'm sure they will belay any of your fears.

I have just completed a 1/128 HOOD for a client . Took the best part of this year ! My build with Fleetscale's terrific hull is in my Portfolio section on my site [ www.johnrhaynes.com ]
I developed many fittings which are shown on the model. Its a BIG model to build .

What with xmas and all that has come along ive been a bit rubbish at updating and taking photos but i thought now would be a good time to update everyone with where i am. The build is as difficult as expected but im loving every minute of it. As you will see by the pictures, ive got all the internal electronics and running gear sorted. Just got to install the rudder servo. I didnt realize there would be so much space to play with in the bow section so i think it would be an injustice if i don't get at least one of the turrets moving and maybe a working anchor winch. Anyway my build skills are quite novice but im improving so really looking forward to progressing with this bulid. Hope you enjoy.

Cant help noticing one little boo boo if you want to call it that......seriously it is not good practise to use crimps on the motor connections.............WHY...well if there is ANY movement at all it will cause arking and it will eventually lead to a failure of a motor or even all of them....YES I know it is slim but whilst you got no deck on her solder the wires on to the motors ...it iwll only take a couple of mins

Thanks dave. My plan was to solder them but the moters have been in and out and in again so much that the crimps have stayed. Will certainly be soldering them now though. I didnt realise that it could have caused such a problem. Thank you again for the advise :-))

Hi timmer....is that a 100 diameter cooling fan over the power yoke board?...and is it sucking or blowing?
If it is blowing...the hot air will be forced onto the component on the PORT side of the power yoke board.......
To make good use of air transfer convection you really need a form of open exhaust x approx. twice the [total] surface area [diameter] of the fan...thus to minimize pressure drop due to restriction
Again from memory...DM [Inertia] provided a table here on MBM on optimal core sized motor wiring for low voltage DC applications O0 ...would be worth reading :-))....

I can kinda see where your coming from. Do you think it would help if I vented the superstructure and maybe incorporated a fan blowing down into the hull?

If it is in the right place perhaps one of the funnels would act as an outlet?

timmer... as suggested by ballastanksian .... one of the open funnels could be an ideal exhaust as it would also contribute to a venturi effect which is preferable and more effective to an open hatch or skylight
Alternatively your thought of an additional smaller fan possibly in the other chimney pushing/drawing air into the superstructure sounds fine
We can also see the smoke foggy unit just aft of the power choke board...would warm air assist or hinder the effect of this unit?
Now I am not suggesting you commence smoking cigarette's <*< but the only real way to confirm air direction and draw function is to use some form of smoke ;)
You have plenty of choices...so carry on with the good work :-)) ...& keep us posted with more results & images as you progress ...... Derek

Been getting on with the superstructure. Ive had to employ a bit of artistic licence to fit in the access to the hull but i think it looks ok.

Hi Timer, some fine styrene work there, and very neat cutting out of openings, I know that's not easy, as for artistic licence I don't know where I'd be without it, %% following your build of this iconic ship.

havent done a great deal to the ship over the last few days but i now have a nice clean workshop :-)) :-))
I did manage however to get a test tank built in the garden. (hood wouldnt fit in the bath)

Will the holes have spyglasses in them so you can see what the hull does underwater or will they have cocks to drain the water out?
It looks bloomin brilliant, I will suggest this to a friend who only has a shower!

I know its been a while but Ive been very busy with a lot of other things so the Hood unfortunately has had to take a back seat. Finally for the first time in a long while Ive managed to clear the shed and make some time to carry on. Hope you like the pics. There will be more to come.....hopefully

Just 1 small comment that I noticed when looking at the first pics.
The Aeriel for the receiver looks low in the hull and surrounded by metal.
Could you raise it higher within the hull?

Thanks for the observation. I've already raised the receiver so it sits just inside the opening. I'm thinking of bringing it up a bit further along with some power switches so I've no need to keep opening hatches to turn on.

Hi Timer. Your work maybe slow, but I can't fault the quality, I always have the RC switch on deck, I connect a rod to the switch below decks the rod passes though the deck and I disguise it with a mushroom vent that doesn't look out of place just about anywhere, then just lift the vent to switch on. :-))

Thats a great idea. That would save a lot of trouble trying to wire new switches in. Ill have a look if its possible (switch location and all) tonight when i finally get out of the office. :-)) :-))

Sorry if this has been suggested before, but is the Italeri kit of the Hood accurate enough to give you any references as to the shape of the superstructure decks or are you OK for information?

I've got the plans which are pretty detailed, also bought a copy of 'anatomy of the ship' which is helping no end. Once I get started it should be ok

As you can see I have not been around since August last year. Unfortunately that means nothing has happened to the build either. I'm afraid to say it doesn't look like anything will any time soon either due to work and family commitments. That said, I just want to put out there that I'm open to offers if someone feels they would like to take over from where I left off. Even if it means just using the 'stuff on the inside' and scraping the rest. Please feel free to drop me a message if your interested. Like I said I'm open to offers. Thanks guys

That is so sad. I love HMS Hood (see my avatar) and would love to carry on your good work..... BUT, (there's always a but) I have something else to finish first and don't live so local either......... Massive shame. I doubt it but once I've finished my current project I'll be back to check if it's still here.
I'd prefer to see you finish it though, it's looking so good.......... It doesn't matter how long!

Ild love to finish her myself but unfortunately since starting I've got a new job, new baby and considerably less spare cash to continue. Ild hate to see her gathering dust in the shed but at the moment that's all that's going to happen. <:(

Well, there are plenty of cases of models sitting in a cupboard for 5, 10 or more years then being resurrected and finished. Of course, your Hood is going to need a pretty big cupboard, which might be an issue - but maybe pop her into the loft in a big plastic bag...? Shame to let her go if you can possibly hang on to her.
