Title: NIMH Charging Question
Post by: Charlie on November 20, 2014, 02:28:54 pm
I already have a NIMH charger which says it is suitable for charging 4-8 cells. I have just bought a 3700 mah 10 cell NIMH pack. Now can i use my existing charger, or do i need to get one suitable for a 10 cell pack?
TIA
Charlie

I suspect that the output voltage will be insufficient to charge 10 cells.

You have sorta answered your own question. Your charger is only suitable for max of 8 cells so will not have sufficient output voltage to charge your 10cell battery.

Hi charlie.
your 4-8 cell  charger covers the voltage range 4.8-9.6v as each cell is taken at 1.2v so you 10 cell pack will 1.2 x10 = 12volts

Thanks for the replies. I got myself a suitable charger from Component Shop, so all sorted.
