Hi, I had a set some years ago that had an infra red Tx. that plugged into the phono socket. My phono socket did not switch off the speakers when in use. The Infra red Tx. was directional and only worked in line of sight. The headphones had a battery in, all adjustable for volume and all worked well. I think they cost about £90 and were a present. They have since failed and seem un-repairable.
If you want wireless system or wi fi system then this may well be more involved.
My own problems were sorted out 18 months ago with some good (NHS) hearing aids.
I would like to know if you come up with anything, that is if it is not too dear.
regards Roy

I had some blue tooth ones, they were ok but had a limited range. One feature is that the also connected to the mobile if you wanted, and so no missed calls. I lost some bits in one of many moves I have done in the last 3 years.

If you get a 3.5mm Stereo Socket to 2 x RCA/Phono Plugs
You can use any of the transmitters and plug into the Audio/Video output
Other people can change main volume and it wont affect you.

I use one of these, I just plug the DTS optic cable from TV to the control box then full wireless Dolby Sound without affecting the main TV volume control.
I know they are a gaming headset but the sound out of the is very good.

It's the TV that decides whether plugging something into the headphone jack kills the speakers (3.5mm sockets often have a contact that opens when a jack is inserted). Wireless speakers often use that socket to pick-up the sound signal.
Our Panasonic doesn't kill the speakers.
If your TV does kill them you might find a menu option to change that behaviour, but if not you'd have to modify the TV or get a system that doesn't use the headphone socket.
