Title: Schotty diodes
Post by: john44 on December 04, 2014, 12:12:30 pm
Hi guys, a fellow boat club member is using 2 x 5000mah Nimh batteries to power his Sea Queen
Brushless out runner motor through a 90amp esc. He has them wired in parallel.
I tried to explain it may be dangerous because of (back charging) he said he has found
No problems. I know Action do a P103 which has 20amp double schotty diodes

Does anyone know of a version that will carry more amperage for use on the ever more
Popular hi revving brushless set ups, or part no,s & wiring diagrams for home assembly.

You could substitute the Schottky diode fitted to the P103 for one of these http://uk.farnell.com/vishay-formerly-i-r/vs-62ctq030pbf/diode-schottky-2x30a-30v-to-220/dp/8657190?ost=8657190 (http://uk.farnell.com/vishay-formerly-i-r/vs-62ctq030pbf/diode-schottky-2x30a-30v-to-220/dp/8657190?ost=8657190)
This is 2 x 30A and should cope OK - don't forget that value of 90A is probably the burst current or Chinese amps (or both)! You would best be advised to fit a larger heat-sink; the link includes a suitable one from the same supplier.

Thanks for that Dave, :-))  but not wanting to seem thick,
how do you wire it into a parallel battery circuit? {:-{

The two positive connections from the battery packs go to each of the outer legs of the diode. The centre leg of the diode is the "ongoing" positive supply to the load. The two battery negatives are connected together and thence directly to the negative of the load.
