Whatsitgonnibee, a sitinary or military standard R/C ? :o

At the moment I am not sure what to add to the centre sections, I could add lots of pipes ( Im an ex Plumber ) or add Hatches.
Nothing too bulky as it has to fit in my Meriva.

Len,

Your 'Secret Antennae' are for satellite communications - AIS, Inmarsat, etc. Some of it is required by the IMO (I think), some is for official ship's business, and some is for - Gasp! - the crew to use when they're off watch.

I thought I might get a Celebrity to Name/Christen my Big Boat, but when I got the Blunt end out of the Workshop and on to the workmate a flock of Starlings flew over and did it for me!! >>:-(  oh how I did chuckle.

Does anyone have a close up shot of one of those lifeboats that are suspended at 45degree angle at the back of Tankers.I thought I might make and add one to my build.  Thanks.

You could scout manufaturers' web sites.

For example here: http://www.norsafe.com/Products/Freefall-systems1/

Click on each model on the left column and then "Read more" under the drawing. There are GA drawings.

For example: http://www.norsafe.com/Global/Products/Freefall/GES%2025%20MKll/Documentation/HD-25-G-03_6%20%20-%20GA%20with%20ZHP4.pdf

Hi John,
We always have a Tug Towing Competition at our Regattas as part of a Yearly Competition for a Cup. We also Have one for Springer Barge Push. Both are run just round a short Course.
Neither have special Tuggy Rules and Very large Tugs would not get through some gates, may be able to put on here a copy of courses, will have a go.

There are 5 x 31" centre sections and the blunt and pointy ends are about 36" each.

How are you going to ballast her?
Title: Re: My 19 Foot Big Boat Build
Post by: Big Ada on March 05, 2015, 05:48:03 pm
How are you going to ballast her?

Only the Bow and Stern sections may need ballasting, the 5 centre sections are open bottomed with 4" thick celotex? foam.
I will ballast with water filled milk bottles ( mostly in the Bow.

Hi George,
It was a little under powered and the ESC stopped working in forward motion, the tugs were having trouble with their own controls when trying to tow.
The press photographer from the KM took some photos and details, probably in the Dover edition?.
Have been given and fitted but not tried a Blower motor, much more power!
Checking the diary for 21st June. May be able to make it.

Len.

I have made and added a Bow Thruster.

The two white straight connectors are slip couplings so enable me to remove the whole Thruster unit if needed.

The last photo is of it under its own power with working Bow thruster. I used two RXs to save running cable the length of the Hull.

I like the idea of having it break down into multiple parts especially as you could then make new parts with LPG domes or different tanker types.

A really nice build. You cousins across the pond are soooo much ahead of us here in the States. No one here would even dream of tackling such a project.
I do wonder about your propulsion system. I would tend to lean toward a geared system, simply to reduce the current load on the motor, but with the size that you are working, I guess a few car batteries would be more than enough power supply, leaving you to put in a large slow turning motor.
There is a fellow down the road from me that converted a training hull into a ride along and he uses an electric trolling motor for power. His craft is 16 feet and the trolling motor gives him well over scale speed and great control.
Beautifully done project! And I thought my 1/4 scale boats were big.

Hi Jonathan, I do not have any problems with propulsion, the one battery I use is from a Mobility Scooter and lasts all day long.
Kind regards,

Len.

Len,
My mistake. Wonderful that she has sufficient power. Yes a scooter battery should last you quite nicely.
