Hello dear friends.
This is my first post here and I want to share with you my best model. This is the forth I build and she really look nice
I hope you like it also. It is the former danish ro/ro Dana Hafnia (later Gedser Link)
It took me 8 months to reach the pool, but it is still under development.

Thank you Tom. We have a great team here in Greece and we plan to expand our fleet. For the moment we have 4 ferries but more are coming.
Venus as I told is still under development.

Lets take the story from the begining.
At first I took one GA plan of the ship, and draw by hand the frames. Then I put them in my computer for perfect mirroring. In some cases I also correct some curves from vessel's pictures.
Then I start cutting and assembling with more care to the bow parts

While trimming the side parts I saw a small bent in the aft part. So I cut it and fix it again.
Then I applied 2 epoxy coats, paint the primer and test it in the tank. There was a very small hole from which some water came in however it was easily repaired with epoxy glue only. Then I continue with painting and decals

I saw your model first on You Tube .very very nice and well made . Can I ask what make is the bow thruster ,and the rudder are they a brought item or did you make them? She sails very well. here are several ferry modellers on her. My self i am doing 1:100 celestine .

I echo John's comment Dinos - you have done a cracking job there with the limited information you had to hand in the beginning.
Like John, I too would love to know what make of bow-thruster you have used........very interested in this for our Linkspan kits....

I found the bow thruster here (http://www.hobby-lobby-modellbau.com/onlineshop/). It is the only scale looking I found on the internet. The price is extremely high but I told myself that I will pay this only once...
However up to now I have not find the correct setup. This has an internal gear. At the beginning I tried one geared motor MFA with 6:1 gear and then a direct graupner 500. The result was similar. No effect from the bow thruster. :(( Now I will try an MFA with 2.5:1 gear which is very powerful. I have the same motors for main propulsion. Let's see..
Rudders are the Robbe's 50x36mm cut in such a way in order to look like the original
For this vessel I have a profile plan and then all decks from double bottom up to bridge. So after drawing the frames I had an easy job. I draw the frames by hand, then I fix them a little bit with the very accurate design program paint {-) . Here is the file with the frames. If you print it in A4 then you have the frames in 1:100

A very impressive video - I really like the bow and forward ramp operation
- it is very realistic. Have travelled several time on the Bari - Igoumenitsa
ferries with this line - doesn't have the style of Minoan lines but a quick trip
to Corfu.
Last time I was at Igoumenitsa there were several Ventouris ferries moored
looking as though they were waiting for the breakers yard

thank you for the info. I have seen this German shop before. Wow they have some very nice stuff but the prices are not so nice LOL. On the rudder that is good to know the Robbe made it , but like so much of there stuff it is impossible to get . I am affter another set of there becker rudders for a tug and thoes rudders you have would have been great for my next ferry project

One thing I have already finished is the new bow ramp which is more close to the original with all moving parts working.

I was rewatching your youtube post on the bow vissor and ramp. The control you have on it is excellent . On the stern ramp I have a linear actuator contoled by 2 micro switches to stop travel at the ends . Can I ask what system you use as you set up would work well on Finnjet

John the Finnjet is a very cool project. In 1:100 scale is more than 2meters long and for me it is difficult to carry such size of model. At first my thought was to build the Polaris (Venus sister) but she is lengthen to 176 meters and also this size is difficult for me to carry in the car. Venus is 144cm
I also have linear actuators for the visor and ramp. I will take some pictures to see this internally.

Finnjet will be big and a pain to move but I like working at 1:100 scale . There will soon be a hull and supperstructer avaible for her and thats in 1:100. I am looking foward to seeing how you did the ramp and vissor . I rely like the way the ramp unfolds then lowers ,very nice

The secret of the bow ramp is a small piece of elastic rubber. Very easy to find this in the supermarket. I put 3 pcs between the two parts of the ramp. So the "normal" position of the ramp is open. I use the same rope to unfold and open the ramp. On the first piece of the ramp there are holes from where the rope pass and stops at the second part of the ramp (outer) Once you start opening the ramp the rope passes from the holes of the first piece of ramp (inner) and the rubber unfolds the door. Once the ramp is fully opened the rope is lowering the system. The opposite happens at ramp closing. Did you understand the way it works or you need more pictures and explanation on it? I will prepare a video tomorrow.

As I understand it, the docking of ferries with open doors (while in motion) was banned in Europe after the Herald of Free Enterprise disaster?

Those with a lifting visor have no choice but to lift it before approaching the linkspan Brian - especially if the structure would foul the opening of it. Nearly all modern ferries today have 'wrap-around' bow doors that can be opened and closed after docking.
So long as the watertight inner door is left closed, then all should be well as the outer doors or visor are not water tight, only weather resistant.
Beyond that, some of the docking practices in some ports in the Med - and here I am thinking of some of the Greek Islands - would make your hair stand on end!!!!

Docking is difficult in some cases because of wind gusts (strong enough for the models)
