Title: my surface drive mfa piranha
Post by: mattf1000 on December 17, 2014, 06:47:09 pm
I've decided to go all modern with my boat with these new fangled lipos and brushless  motors. My set up was going to be ic but it's noisy and complicated. I have a surface drive set up with a octura x640 prop and need some motor, esc and lipo  options. I understand  brushed motors and nicads etc but nothing about brushless. So any help would be great  cheers

Flintshire mate. I've been messing with boats and cars for years. Built a f1 type tunnel hull from scratch out of balsa. That was really quick. I'll use the piranha  as a hack before I build another tunnel hull. And all the other projects I have plans for

FWIW, when North Wales was mentioned, I thought of Component-Shop. They have added brushless motors to their product line. Inrunners and outrunners.

Yes I heard of them but need to know what to get. I've no idea what size motor will work with that prop

40mm racing prop might be to much for a brushless motor BUT i will stand corrected on this one
I would suggest

Diameter: 1.57"(40mm)
 Total Pitch: 1.6x1.57=2.512"
 Shaft Size: 3/16
hope that helps

If it's surface drive you're going to a need a bit of revs aren't you?

Spoke to Prestwich Models today who recommend a 1200W  1900 KV motor, 120A esc and 4s lipos. So hopefully will make quite a nippy little boat
