has anyone built any of these
-
Only an autogyro and some dockside buildings but I`ve often wondered if they would ease the building of model ships by enlarging them and transferring them to wood.
-
I'm having a paper model pdf re-printed onto adhesive film (the stuff they wrap cars with) and then laminated onto plasticard sheets by a reprographics company.
The result should be fully waterproof and, effectively, pre-painted. :-))
-
Ah , good idea. I said wood only because I`m from the olden days. :embarrassed: Are you scaling it up ? We need a build thread methinks. What ship ? Any costing so far ?
-
I'm doing a surface running Disney Nautilus - scaled up to about 40". It prints out on 7 sheets of A3 at a price of £53 all in.
I'll need to create a structure inside for support the internals, but it's only Airfix modelling techniques required.
-
Sounds good, please consider a build thread.

Should keep you busy for a while.

www.marcle.co.uk is the main uk source but Polish and German sites excel with kit sources and free plans, publications etc

Haven't built a card model per se but am building, very slowly, a 1:100 model of the Japanese battleship Fuso based on the 1:200 Halinski card kit scaled up. See http://www.sfmbc.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=387 (http://www.sfmbc.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=387)

Nice job Andy. Will be watching progress.
-
Wow! That is a fantastic build. The pagoda and that aft platform behind the funnel are amazing pieces of construction.
I had thought of scaling up card models like this and it seems to work well.
Does anyone do a Helgoland class battleship as a card model?
-
oui.

This is my attempt at a card warship. I have dabbled in card a little bit and built mostly syfy but couldn't get past how most of the build is just cutting paper.

PS. I know what your thinking but the plans where not very clear on the rigging so I had to wing it, had I built it now I would have done a better job.
PPS. The larger cannon in the background is paper aswell.

It is interesting what you can do with a flat material. Good work, thanks for sharing phtos of a labour of love.

Hi Dennis, I use Imageshack (other image hosting sites are available) and you can resize your images in the uploading window at the top. I think I use 800x600 for my images on here and they are a good size without needing any scrolling about to see the mess surrounding my work in progress!
The above hoster does limit free hosting to about 200 images, so if this is enough for you try it out.

This a diaorama I scratch built to 1/96 scale.Cerberus is accurate, the train built from British model railway plans. The cranes were built from photos, and there are really no photos from that era for Victoria state decommissioning. So artistic license was used.
-
That is a brilliant diorama Dennis! I haver fancied building a sailing model of her for a while now and once Cochrane has been completed, I ,ay well go down the card model route that you did to get the building information.
Good to see the photo. Thanks for sharing, it was well worth hosting.
-
:embarrassed: Thanks for the kind comments. The thing about buying paper models, are they not expensive,a good foundation for building, then researching photos and history. Also so many models to choose from.
-
Yes, there are a good few hundred, and of a variety of subjects as well as ships. Cerberus download ordered along with an X-Lighter printed kit.

There are a good selection of German capital ships for WW1 available. This is enticing.
