Title: Billings Boats Boulogne Etaples kit
Post by: polobeer on July 20, 2007, 10:22:19 am
Dear forum members,

Does anyone have any advice/experience with this kit? I've not built a plank on frame boat before, but I feel confident that I could do it (I've built many models in the past).  Also, does anyone have any photos of this model under construction/completed? Any advice about constructing a plank on frame hull would be great! Many thanks in advance.

Hi Polobeer, Sorry but I have no experience of your kit and I have only built two plank on frame boats but from my limited experience I would say first of all do not rush it. Make sure all the edges are sanded to clean them especially if they have been laser cut. I used normal wood glue 9plenty of it and pins but if you look at the 'Build the Bismark' thread on this site you will see Martin using some very useful looking clamps. I also used to steam my planks before bending and there are plank bending tools available but I have never used them. I only did three or four planks per evening per side so it does take time but it is very rewarding. There is also a lot of information there on glues, fillers, sanding, sealing etc. Good luck and cheers Graham. :)
