Post by: Martin (Admin) on December 30, 2014, 03:00:03 pm

That motor has come out of a air handling unit,it is usually connected to a control panel red, yellow, and blue(old colours) are the motor power cables the others are for flow switches sensers ect, not forgetting earth cables, that's all I can make out from photo's,Ray.

Hi Martin
It looks like a 3phase motor to me

1st connection earth
2nd connection star point
3rd connection phase
4th connection phase
5th connection phase
6th connection internal thermistor
7th connection internal thermistor

Try Remco they supply motors for the a/c industry

Has any one checked that all the phases are ok might just be a fuse in the DB board ,has any of the phases gone to earth ,is there continuity , have the bearings been checked , has the motor the burnt smell .if it has not been fault found to eliminate things like depression switches pressure sensors  or even blocked filter motor cut offs  lots to find out before condemning the motor ,I used to look after 6 AHUs my experiance tells me it is not cost effective to get the motor rewound obtain a replacement .
Just trying to help
David

I know this might be rather obvious but if you know nothing about it and do not have the experience/knowledge, call an electrical service...

FYI: Got it all sorted today.   :-))

HVAC unit in a meeting hall out of service now for about two months.
Sent out fan unit for two quotes.
Accepted quote at £290 + Vat
Paid and motor unit returned a week later, good as new.
Hauled it up in the hall's loft and set about dismantling the HVAC unit.
Took many photos of the electrical connector block before unscrewing the wires.

At this point, Pete then says, "Where do you think this wire goes?"
       "What wire?" I sez.
"This green wire that when I touch it, it came away from the connector block."

       ..... very long pause.

"Did it come away with unscrewing it?"
       "Yes."

       ..... another long pause.

"Is there a small bit of wire in one of the connectors?"
"Errrrr...... Yes! Looks like we only had a simple wire fracture!"

Fit a new 'chocolate block' connector, re-end all the wires and reconnect.
Thrown in all the breaker, HVAC and fan come on and runs perfectly.

Total time for repair, about 2 month.
Actual total time for repair, including cover off to covers on, about 45 minutes.
Total cost for repair 68p ( + £348.00 for spare fan unit! )

...... and the moral of the story is ???!

IP is ingress protection, it's a rating for the enclosure stopping dust and liquids entering where there are electrical parts or connections etc sorry I'm a nerd but it's my job my NIC EIC auditer would be proud of me

Tom...yes you are correct, however the original image label has no value marked against IP...

This is because the motor has an open frame & body casing...so has no protection against the ingress of dust or and moisture

According to the International Protection Code...it should state either IP-XX  or IP-00   .............. Derek

I bow to the greater knowledge.
As Derek says it should have had
XX or OO after it which I would have
recognised as IP instead of 1P  :embarrassed: :embarrassed:
