Does anyone know where I can get plans or photos of the James Braidwood (London Fireboat)?

You will be lucky if you do, I have been after it for about 6 years.. :}
To date I have only ever seen this on display once and that was at the 2014 Warwick show.
I spoke to Jotika and was told that only about 50 were produced, I have one, unbuilt and without any fittings :} they looked for the plans but could not find them %%

does have a look of the aerokit crash tender about it/
built in 1939 by samuel white at cowes. closed in 1981 did they save their plans or did they go in the fire..??
what is the yank coy building from plans or plagiarizing a kit ??

The one at the Warwick Show is better than the so called "museum quality" one shown on the American site.

There is a model of the vessel in the Science Museum but they dont have the plans. Nor the National Maritime Museum.
I have also tried the person who archives the other plans of vessels made by Samuel White.
The London Transport Museum and London Fire Brigade have not responded to my requests for information.
Is there anywhere else worth trying?

I would Brass neck it and try the American coy that is offering the built model see if they have plans as they have to be building from some kind of data. Just tell them a fanny storey that you have got hold of an old kit of E-bay which is out of production but is missing the plans and to your chagrin the coy that used to make it cant help you either. As they old saying goes if ye don`t ask ye don`t get.

Hi all,
I have the plans for the Braidwood in soft copy and am willing to send them on. I also have a lot of pictures and even the model to build when I get around to it (45 to go). I am the overseas modeller mentioned in this thread by Adrians Figures. Two scratch built models of the Braidwood can be seen in the London Fire Brigade Museum which I visited a few years ago and they were very accommodating. I also contacted the Model Museum in Greenwich and spoke to a guy who was very helpful and was going to try and get me the plans of the real Braidwood but for some reason he disappeared on me over the emails etc. Willing to share anything I have on the Braidwood with anyone who wants it. Clearly I a live and work in Asia so can only do this by email etc. For information I also contacted the company in America that built this model but can assure you they wanted a lot of money to assist me with my project. Not willing to share plans but were willing to complete my model for a ridiculous price of $2k in my opinion. Contact me if you would like the plans. Thanks Kev

Having looked at the Warwick show version of his model is nearly bang on to the plans apart from the side rails etc which can be seen in the American version of this model. As an aside I am looking for someone who can make the stanchions for me which are 70mm tall. If anyone can help with that I would love to hear from them.

Sorry all lastly on this subject if anyone has a kit they want to sell I am willing to buy it for a decent price also. I have a complete kit and some spare fittings but I am a novice builder so am bound to make a few mistakes. I have wanted build this model for a long time, not sure why, it is a simple but very nice model in my opinion. If anyone wants to see one let me know. I have a uk postal address so it is easy to get it to me. Kev

I have today received some information on the James Braidwood from the London Fire Brigade.
Evidently it was built at the same time as a batch of pinnaces for the Royal Navy and was most certainly diverted from this batch for conversion into a Fire Boat to reinforce the London fire force for the expected war. This should mean that it should share the same lines as the pinnace.
In addition the vessel turned out to be a "wet boat" and acquired an Navel type rotating glass windscreen wiper in its port side front windscreen fairly soon after manufacture.

paddleduck.....wet boat or dry boat in the rain......there is certainly a rotating clearview in the 1950 build by LC Stainiforth :-)) ....
Even at 5 knots in an OZ shower you are running blind without one O0 ......Derek

Hi all,
I have three pictures of the actual boat on the Thames one has a wet or clear view on it, the other does and the last one is side on so can't tell. Off the there Braidwood's models I photographed in the LFB Museum two have and one doesn't. The plans of the model I have do not show it but the plans of the actual boat I have do. Cheers Kev

I have messaged you twice now all I need is an email address and i will send them to you. This is what my model looked like when I got it off ebay. The rest of the fittings and everything else was with it. The only thing missing is the stanchions which I need to get made as they are quite long. I have some of them but not all of them. Kev

What is interesting is on the copy I have seen it would appear that D. Metcalfe in 1986 also had some involvement.
Can Morley Bill shed any light on that ?.
The hull I have is thick plastic..
