Title: Havengore Launch
Post by: Nordlys on January 30, 2015, 11:41:39 am
Being very much in the news today, I wondered if anyone has actually made or owns
a model of this very nice launch?
Nord.

Hi nord  the Havengore was local to me in Gravesend as she was the Port of London Authority survey launch, in fact my Brother in law joined her when he left school in the early 60s and retired from her when she was finally sold out of service, he was telling me the other day that they spent the two weeks before Churchills funeral having new carpet, and black curtains fitted as well as the coffin support over the after skylight.
she is still around and also has her original twin 8 cyl Gardner diesels

And why O why do they insist on calling her a BARGE on the TV?

Is it me or does she have the lines of a Fairmile, perhaps an A or B or a HDML?

Normally moored up in  Chatham Marina basin, so easy to take pictures of. A pretty looking boat.

Hello tailuk.  As far as I can find out she is a one off design by toughs of teddington on the Thames. The did build Fairmiles and I can see where the likeness is in her bow and sheer, but she is carvel planked and has a rounded stern.  Geo

Geo, Many thanks for posting those pictures with your connection.

I was berthed next to her in St Katherines Dock a few years back.
A Classic Vessel.

Well, she's a bonny looking boat,  whatever her lineage.

Well spotted, she replaced a HDML called Shorne Mead which the POL so liked they commissioned her replacement with very similar lines.

Certainly a handsome looking launch. . . .

Dimensions L 25.81m (84.7 ft)  B 4.95M (16.2 ft) Draft 1.9m ( 6.2 ft)
@ 1/24         1075 x 206  x 79mm would make a cracking model
Plenty of reference pics

Always wanted to, I'm sure I could modify a HDML hull to make a suitable new mould, and I have some pics of her out of the water. Just need a good general arrangement drawing now  :-))

I think the old Model Maker magazine had a mini drawing of her - possibly by Arthur Pollard in his small craft series.

From my original enquiry - photo's - dimensions - to a drawing!
I could make this over the summer, twin engine, a very manageable length and classic shape.

Thank you all.

Worth coming down to the Marina & taking some pictures. MT Kent is there as well, also another older boat there, but not sure what that is.
