hi all
have been looking at model r c tanks ,the tamiya 1/16 king tiger looks great but there seems to be a big difference in prices eg one online shop shows £519 for kit plus £99 pounds radio deal including battery and charger , two or three others all about same price , westbourne models retail at £720 pounds without radio but no discount or offers ,not sure if the other models have metal tracks hence the difference in price ,could one buy cheaper offers and up grade the tracks and still be below westbourne price

Does it have to be Tamiya, have a good read through this forum  http://www.rctankwarfare.co.uk/forums/index.php plenty builds of heng long and taigen tanks, pay a bit of attention to the recommended vendors thread and especialy the not recommended.

Hi mid ships, I'm seriously into my tanks. You can pick up a Tamiya much cheaper unbuilt and really really cheap if built. Lots come up on eBay. Are you after anything or just a king tiger?

Hi Howard
I have a Tamiya King Tiger I built about ten years ago still working fine, It cost me 520 back then but it was the full option kit, ie sound, gun flash, recoiling barrel etc. and that could be the difference in prices you found, you can buy the kits without the full option package, all the kits come with plastic tracks, you have to buy upgrade metal tracks as I did, IMO Heng Long tanks will never come close to the Tamiya's hence the far cheaper price, I guess you gets what you pay for, I also have the Tamiya Sherman full option, and a Heng Long leopard that I bought cheap and repaired.

Some members of our club upgraded to metal tracks. Don't expect to be able to run it across grass, if you do metal tracks act as grass cutters and clog up the drive wheels. Also they do not have the same traction on smooth slopes as they do not have the weight of a real tank to dig into surfaces.

Geids your overly generalising. I have some heavy tanks with metal tracks which run fine one all surfaces, grass, dirt, slopes etc. Depends what gearboxes, motors and electronics you have. Front drive tanks tend to have no issues with clogging but rear drive tanks suffer more, especially on freshly cut grass.

Well all I can go by is the number of tanks that have been converted to metal tracks that have had problems with grass. On a made up course the metal tracked tanks were beaten hands down for traction.

may start my tamiya leapord 1/16 rc tank but cant find my assembly insructions ,where is the best place to locate a new insruction book or if any one has a copy i could buy this would be most helpful
