I notice that the American destroyer that became HMS Campbeltown has had a major refit!

Super models, really disinterested sloppy reporting.  Or possibly editing, seeing as the headline writer couldn't even spell "buoy".

Tony was/is a leading light in the Model Warship Association.  His models are of the highest standard. I don't know if he is a Mayhemer.

He has crossed to The Dark Side and become a member of the Portsmouth Model Boat Display Team...despite our best efforts, he wont let us fit pyrotechnics to his models, spoilsport :}

When Tony Ansell was given an Airfix kit at was six-years-old, it was something of an inspiration.
Twenty years on the keen model maker has created a fleet of radio controlled warships at his workshop in Ferndown in Dorset.

So he is only 26 ?.

its the mileage!

Do newspapers really employ an infinite number of chimps to write articles these days? Or is it the last one they didn't employ that could string a sentence together proper like?

Dear Martin
I'm now very anxious and depressed, Will this give me cancer or reduce the value of my house?
Pat Hettick

Dear Pat
I wouldn't worry your pretty little head about it, m'dear. If you turn to page 317 you can win a new country cottage (worth £999,999) every day of your life for a year! Second prize is a combined foldaway stairlift and walk-in bathtub, as recommended by none other than Sir Alan Sugar and Judith Chalmers!

As my Dad used to say, the only things missing from The Mail are perforations every six inches and a hole in the corner so you can hang the pieces on a handy nail.
When I'm King I shall throw Paul Dacre down the same dark hole as Rupert Murdoch, Simon Cowell and Michael O'Leary. There they can spend eternity with Piers Morgan and Jeremy Kyle.
Other nominations on a piece of Izal or Bronco c/o The Mods, please.

HMS Campbeltown is the Type 22 version, but HMS Fencer is correct - ie:  close up with WW2 Seafire aircraft.

Have another look at the three models in the captioned picture - the lowest one is very definitely a modern USN carrier and not the WW2 one in other pictures.
Its when you see this standard of "reporting" on a subject that you know about, you should start to question the standards that are applied in all of the other items in the paper where they are covering subjects that we don't know much about.  Not just the DM, but all of them.

 >>:-( Sadly I come to the conclusion that you can't trust a word that reported in the national press, having had experience of an incident which I witnessed and what was reported in the nationals, I believe you have to have a vivid imagination to work on these papers and no concept of the truth, the broadcasters are going down the same road as the papers so the majority of the people really don't know what the truth is and this is frightening to say the least, too few people have control of the media and that is is dangerous,Ray. >>:-( >>:-(

Tony has indeed got a model of HMS Fencer, the WW2 Escort Carrier, as well as a modern USN Carrier at 1/350. So we can probably put that down to poor captioning of individual photos, rather than total incompetence on the reporters part!

Absolutely, and despite everything, its still a good story. Better that than the usual negative press, about piffling little disputes between modellers and NIMBYs at the local ponds, that seem to litter the press these days.

It's more the absolute lack of research that goes into anything nowadays.
Just walked in from a run with the faithful airedale and SWIMBO was watching
Pointless.
Jackpot question
Name three RN ships currently in service.
Answer Cardiff , Intrepid, Coventry.
All wrong obviously.
Whilst the presenter is explaining they are wrong, he says Coventry was
decommissioned in 2002.
My old shipmate Dave Ozbirn would have still been alive as he was one of the
casualties.

Not to belittle the sacrifice of the Type 42, but a subsequent Type 22 bore the name and was indeed decommissioned in 2002 (and sold to Romania I believe),  I vaguely remember some emotional debate in the early 80s on whether the name of a Falklands casualty should be used again so quickly.

I too was watching that part of Pointless while Dinner was in the Pan (Frying type - Sea Bass for dinner). Richard Osmond went on to list about half a dozen Type 23 Duke Class that 'were named after towns'

When showed SWMBO this, hinting at the space he has and the lack of space I have (basically a lap tray), all I got was a look that saw me retreat quickly to the kitchen to put the ketttle on.
