Title: Unknown Vessel
Post by: TheLongBuild on March 06, 2015, 11:18:15 pm
Hi all

I have this hull and am wondering what it may be, in a recent unrelated post a mention was made to a SAR 33, and although it looks close I do not think it is that vessel, it could be a scratch built upper on a speed boat hull but not sure..  Any comments would be helpful ..

The first picture is not my hull but a SAR 33 on ebay as per another thread.

It kind of looks like it wants to be a Russian Missile patrol boat.
Like two big missle boxes should be on either side of the bridge.
The turret, however, looks like a 76mm auto gun... Melara

Hi Umi.......

The gun house shown below in image WP20150218 is an Oto Melara 76 mm with shape being spherical or dome like from the top

However the mounting shown in 21.JPG is clearly an alternate format

The Oto Melara 76 mm was acknowledged as a brilliant design and as used by a dozens [60?] of the worlds navies :-))

Two of my colleagues lost fingers  <*< from their right hand when adjusting the recuperators within the mount on our HMA........FFG's

I did not like the maintenance procedures  >>:-( >>:-( >>:-( on these gun mounts.......

It was common to install the Oto 76mm mount on largish patrol type craft..................Derek

Hi Derek,

You have to remember, that I know nothing about maritime industries, or the worlds navies...

It was a kit produced by Modelcraft in Leicester back in the mid eighties. Don't remember what it was called but it had a pair of Falcon motors in it. Which were proper good motors back in the day. You should be able to find an advert in Model Boats magazine back then showing the model. I dont think it was based on a real prototype though.

Hi LB
as UBN said a 1980`s model looking at the white servo plug in the pix looks like from old sanwa servo.
Oh..just googled it  and found it on here.. although not showing  the pix are there if you click on the words they will open..
Its called  a kit for a NHP47 Fast Patrol Craft from Sept 82 MB mag.. despite the acroym of the vessel title don`t think its anything to do with neil.  ;D

The modelcraft shop in Leicester is now the purveyor of electrical goods and I can find no information
that they moved elsewhere but one of the local lads may know better.  They used to be on my beat
many years ago but I no longer live in that area
