Always seek permission from C in C Home Forces before using equipment she regards as hers.

Just this evening I did ask permission to use the iron on some thin calico I am using as ships boats tarpaulins. She kindly reminded me of what setting to use.

Strange, she comes home expecting me to have ironed my shirts, for which a Chit is not required.  If I have not anticipated her unspoken command I am likely to be on a charge.

Solution is simple,

Buy SWMBO a new iron and you get to keep the old one. O0  O0
Same with ironing board, not my original idea but from "Dicky D" who is sailing above us all.

The answer.

Swmbo allowed me to use her little iron when I was making sails for my sailing trawler, then she went shopping. She came home with one of those huge steam generator irons that have a water reservoir attached by a hose. She told me I could keep her old one in the model room for future use %)

I got told off by my new lady...she trod on a brass bolt I'd dropped on the bedroom floor whilst not wearing her slippers.

I thought it was good of her to find it for me...she thought otherwise.

BRIAN

you know that the enormous iron is more effective?

Wait that Madam is in the room bath to use him.

It gives you two hours

My side was clean, I didn't need slippers. Her side wasn't clean...lesson learnt there.

Many years ago I offered to help with the ironing! I was getting on ok until I tried to iron a nylon sock, well what dis I know? The damn thing melted to the soleplate of the iron.I managed to peel some of the mess off when it cooled, but still had to buy a new iron and we were VERY poor then. Never been allowed to touch it again!

Early in married life I made a couple of comments about white uniform shirts and creases in trousers. I was promptly told "You're not in the b....y Navy now", and from then on did it myself. Fortunately pre swmbo I spent 20 years in the RN so it was not too much hardship. Since retirement though the vacuum cleaner seems to come my way more often...
