Title: Virgin Atlantic Challenger Information Sought
Post by: Raggedy Man on April 05, 2015, 10:09:04 pm
I am looking for information on both of the Virgin Atlantic Challenger boats.

I am hoping to design a couple scale radio control models of the vessels and wonder if anybody has any good quality scale drawings or documentation.

I also keep hearing about models of VAC 2 that were produced at the time by Virgin. Can anyone elaborate further or know of any available for sale ?

Any information would be hugely appreciated.

Regards

I have what I was told is a test hull for the Virgin Atlantic challenger. Might be willing to sell. There were plans in model boat magazine but I can't testify to its accuracy. Here's a site that might be of interest:

I've seen that website. Rather impressive boats they have made.

I've also the Model Boats magazine plan as well which looks quite accurate.

PM inbound shortly re your item you mention.

Hi there Raggedy Man

If this is the model you have the plans for from Model Boats Magazine - it is semi-scale - and also there is a slight issue with the turning of the model at high speed, due to the  'U' shaped rudder.   When you turn the model port to starboard it comes off the plane, waddles like a duck in water for a few seconds, and picks up on the plane again :-)

Sorry my mistake I meant I have the plan for the VAC 1 from Radio Control Boat Modeller magazine by Ernst -Bernd Bahn.

Your model looks cracking though. Really looks the part. Wonder why we don't see more models of the two boats on forums etc.

Hi Raggedy Man,
What issue were the VAC1 plans in? I've been considering starting one of these recently, but plans seem to be unavailable.
My farther and I started one in the early 90's but didn't get much done. We didn't have any plans then either!

Jon

Isn't that the one that sank ? There's plans for the second one in Making Radio Control Boats by Graham Goodchild.
