Title: Radio Equipment
Post by: traveller on April 11, 2015, 10:26:52 am
Hi,
I have been offered a tx&rx set that are labelled as for a helicopter but my usage would be a boat.  Will this equipment be suitable? What problems am i likely to experience?  Any info appreciated.

Thanks

Peter

Probably NOT.  Unless it is in the 2.4 gig/Hz band wave.

Helicopters have always been run at a different frequency from boats to prevent accidents.

Cheers

Actually Ken, it won't be a problem here in Australia, and I notice that Peter shows his address as NSW, as long as it operates on an approved frequency. When I took up model boating some years ago, I used, and still use, my aircraft radios, which are 36 Mhz, one of the frequencies approved for RC models here. As you rightly say, if the radio offered to Peter is 2.4 Ghz, then there will be no problems with any frequency clash. Our model boat club operates a frequency board marked out for 27 and 29 Mhz AM, and 36 and 40 Mhz FM, although there a very few AM sets in use now. The popularity of 2.4 Ghz is increasing and, of course, this frequency does not require the use of a board.

A bit more information is required here before the definitive answer can be given.
If its 2.4Ghz then it would be fine, however its 35Mhz then no.....  However, depending on the model it may have a module that can be changed to either 40Mhz or 2.4Ghz.

So the main question is, what is the make and model of the TX?

E2V, check my reply. It seems we both replied at almost exactly the same time. As the OP lives in Australia, different regulations apply and 35 Mhz is illegal for model use here.
