Title: Aphrodite, a 72 foot classic
Post by: BillF on April 27, 2015, 10:12:07 pm
Hi everyone,
I live in southern New Mexico far from the water.  However my wife and I lived in the Pacific Northwest all our lives until I retired.  My actual boating experience has been in the waters of Puget Sound and north to Southeast Alaska.

I prefer power boats for model building.  My arthritic fingers have difficulty with all the rigging of sailing vessels and all my real experiences was in power boating.

I am currently working on a 48" model of the Aphrodite, a 72 foot classic.

I look forward to participation in conversations on this forum.

Hi Frank,
Yes it is the 1937 74 foot commuter yacht.  Her lines are fantastic.
I have the hull planked and am currently smoothing it out.

Hi Frank,
Thanks for all the history and pictures.  I learned a bit more history and saw some photos that I had not seen before.  She is an incredible yacht.

Hi Martin,
The stern is truly unique.  It's also quite the challenge to build in a model.

Bit like the old Thames Slipper Stern Cruisers
There were quite a few different versions.

Have to agree with Martin that is one seriously tricky stern. Good luck hope it goes well.

Thanks, the stern is actually starting to shape up pretty well.

I have a picture of the stern but I can't figure out how to post it with this message.

Thanks Frank,
Can't I just upload a resized picture from my files?

When I click on the "Insert Image" icon, nothing happens.
Thanks,
Bill

The pictures will not upload if they are larger than 200K.

Ideally, they should be around 100K as a Jpeg for best viewing.

Hope this helps

Thanks,
I'm doing something wrong.  The picture I'm trying to upload is 148K.

I am trying to used the "Insert Image" icon located directly under the "B" icon in the formatting area above the message box that we type messages into.

Should I be doing something different?

Thanks,
Bill
