OOOOOhhhh yes, really small (battery gives the scale), kids lost the tank so had to make it with a cargo to hide the battery and switch.

There are so many types and styles to choose from. They give plenty of modelling scope. Good job Warspite:O)

Any idea if the Italeri 1/35 kit is any larger?

It's quite a bit larger, nearly twice as large.

I'm just in the middle of converting 2 LCM 3's into 1 LCM 6.

Despite what Airfix suggested the 3 wasn't really big enough for a Sherman, or a Cromwell for that matter. It would take a Stuart no problem  but in a sea landing the bigger tanks would have caused problems. (Though they did use the 3's for the bigger tanks when they cross the Rhine.

To make an LCM big enough for the above they stuck an extra 6 feet on.

So take one Airfix LCM 3 hack off all but 24mm of the load area, and a second one and remove the stern section. Then mate the two together.

I have a cheap r/c (40MHz) motorboat to act as donor for RC gear and motors, no rudders all done with the motors.

Steve,

Suppose it would be possible to also do the same mod to the 1/35 Italeri kit.
Why I am looking at 1/35 is I already have the Italeri Schnellboot and MTB, there is also a 1/35 scale Italeri  DUKW.
So am looking at the feasibility of conversion to RC.

Should be even easier in 1/35 just more expensive. However if you go for styrene sheet rather than shoving two kits together that would be even better/cheaper.

IIRC Deans r/c'd one using their Mini-Gear - it's whether you want to shell out £80 to do it, or do it using off the shelf.

I went down the route of the 'no rudder' and used two very small servos broken down into their bits, the motors are actually protruding through the hull and the original impellers fitted direct to the shaft, the whole motor then sealed in resin but with the shaft free to rotate - obviously, the pots shafts protrude through the well deck bulkhead and are capped with 1/35 scale reels from a tamiya jeep trailer, with 'rope', adjustment to the pots can then be done if required.

That's clever! I did wonder about those reels.

Here's my conversion

The after deck can be removed in one piece for access, it will seal with a tab and neodemium magnets.

Mines full sealed - I tried to keep the weight down as much as possible, but she still sits quite low in the water, a lipo battery would help in this - as would removing as much uneccessary weight

From experience, there is not that much space internally, the arial was run around under the well deck floor, as was the power connector cable and on off switch cable. is this going to be carring any cargo i.e. jeep and trailer or the kits sherman tank?

Was planning to put an Airfix 1/76th scale Cromwell in there. (That old Sherman model is well past it's sell-by). The running gear for this is quite small, it fits into 1/72nd scale sport boats designed for a bath or a paddling pool, the battery is built in, and the esc is on a small pcb (it's basically on/off and forward/reverse on two motors). The tricky part is getting it out of the donor without disturbing the soldered connections too much.

Paint the leads to look like steel rope and you can then put it in open view saving some space inside for other essential machinery. Perhaps leave a little bit of each to show the colour for wiring purposes.

Hi Warspite she is one of our original club display lcm, there is 4 of them. They are 22 years old and still going strong. Fully operational to land tanks on the mulberry harbour.
