Hi all I thought you might be interested in the latest vessel to join the Trinity House fleet. She arrived in Harwich this morning after traveling from Poland where she was built Named the Galatea, shes pretty big, & I think would be worthy of making a nice model of her, if not a bit complicated to say the least !! The smaller vessel alongside her is the Alert which was built at the same yard, & arrived last year. She is their fast responce vessel also based at Harwich. Hope the pics are of interest to you. I expect it won't be long before a model is made. She's a great looking ship. I like that sturdy crane.
Mind you, the windows will take some filing and sanding. 8)

The name Galatea has been used by Trinity house for many many years, just like the other names gone before her. :)

Nice looking ship. What is she for? Seems like an awful lot of ship to go buoy lifting now that the lighthouses are auto and unmanned (even those that are still working and not part of the "heritage trail"). Perhaps she is fitted out to be a substitute Royal Yacht. Trinity House has a huge pedigree but I wonder if they have lost their way somewhat.

If you can't wait for Model Slipway etc. there is a card model of her now available from Marcle. 1:250th scale, £12.95. Apparently the Queen was given the first copy when she named the ship a couple of months ago. So now we know what her Majesty will be doing over Christmas. Look out for the card and scissors in the Christmas message broadcast!

The Royal Yacht is the Patricia and there was speculation she will be kept to carry on with those duties. She looks just the job for offshore buoy work large and steady, I should imagine she is fitted with DP, because otherwise I would not to work of my quarter otherwise. I remember seeing the Patricia in the late 1980's using her work boat buoy jumping the buoys of the Royal Sovereign in a force 8 SW to relight the buoys, I took my hat to the boat crew that day, they earned their pennies that day.
